Publisher's summary

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes...a baby carriage? Isn’t that what all women want? Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.

This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. It’s about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was - and that there is no possible compromise. It’s about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, it’s about the things we will do - and won’t do - for love.

Don't Read

This book is terrible. Something Blue and Something Borrowed were entertaining, but this one, I cannot even finish.

Not the best

While the story line was descent, it was a very slow book with very little dimension.

Try the version read by Cynthia Nixon

Characters seem overly trite and shallow due to the flat affect of the narrator. I'd like to hear the abridged version read by Cynthia Nixon because I have been a fan of Giffin's "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" as well as the audio version of "Heart of the Matter" read by Cynthia Nixon. Normally I prefer Unabridged audio books to abridged, but Cynthia Nixon is a talented actor and I bet it makes a big difference.

Incredibly boring!

I am a huge Emily Giffin fan, but this was so incredibly boring. I would recommend every other Giffin book, but I would not recommend this one.

Not my favorite.

What disappointed you about Baby Proof?

I didn't finish this book, I love Giffin normally but this one just couldn't keep my attention.

What was most disappointing about Emily Giffin’s story?

The story was really slow.

What three words best describe Christine Marshall’s voice?

I thought she was fine.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Emily Giffin's writing is normally great. I will continue to buy her books, this one just wasn't for me.

Highly disappointing

I wasn't sure what sort of development to expect when the main character and I align on one very key life-view right from the get go and the story starts with an apparent happy ending. I was right to be worried - the "I'm going to suddenly change my mind about something as major as having kids just the keep the dude" storyline was anything but original. We couldn't just have one book where she's childless and happy, could we?
Also, unsure if the character or the writer was fat phobic, but the multiple times derogatory comments were made towards fat "NPCs" left a whole other bitter flavor... Don't even get me started oh how altogether unpleasant the main character is... She's entitled and rude, and her holier-than-thou I know best always attitude is irritating to no end.

Unlike me but had to stop listening

The reader's voice grated on my nerves........the story skipped around too much and did not make much sense. I LOVE my audio books so it is highly unusual for me to actually stop listening to one without finishing it but that is exactly what I did with this one. The cover of the book says narrated by Cynthia Nixon....NOT!!! She narrated Hear of the Matter and I loved it, this reader was awful!

This was a book about temper tantrum.

Glad to hear about Ethan and Darcy ! Not the authors best work. Great narrator.

Weak!

Would you try another book from Emily Giffin and/or Christine Marshall?

I love Emily Griffin but this was not her best book. I read it after reading Something Borrowed and Something Blue so I was expecting something comparable. It was terrible compared to those two. I felt cheated after reading it.

Has Baby Proof turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes! The characters were not believable.

Would you be willing to try another one of Christine Marshall’s performances?

Yes, she did well.
