Surprisingly good paranormal story

Stick with it. The story starts slow but builds into something good. Overall, the narrator did a good job. My my only quibble is with the way the narrator did the female voices. There very little difference between the female characters. I received this audio book for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

I still have chills...

I had trouble getting into the book at first but stuck with it and so glad I did! It just kept getting better and better the whole time leaving me covered in goose bumps.

I don't want to give anything away for the next reader so I'll just say what an awesome storyline and great characters. The narrator was a huge key into bringing each character to life giving them their own unique voice and emotions (that I felt). Goose bumps up, hair standing on end, gasping at times and laughing at other times... such a wonderful thriller.

Great Supernatural Thriller

If bad things kept happening to your family at the same time every year, would you chalk it up to mere coincidence or something else? That's the dilemma facing Doug. Forced to consider the possibility that dark forces may be at work, Doug begins seeking out answers and comes to a frightening realization. His family is in danger and they're running out of time.

Just when the story was really getting good, I realized that it was already late at night. I kept thinking that I'd just listen to one more chapter and then go to bed. Well, that didn't quite work out because I stayed up until 3am, having to get to the ending. The suspense kept building to the thrilling climax and left me satisfied when I finished. There was no shortage of interesting characters along the way, both good and evil. The religious element was important to the plot but it was not done in an overly preachy way. This was great storytelling and I thoroughly enjoyed it. David Bosco's performance really brought the characters and story to life, adding to my enjoyment. I loved this supernatural thriller and would recommend it.

A great thriller that makes you ask What If

This is a good story to go into totally cold. What I mean by that is, don't read the back of it, don't read the description, and know as little about it as possible before you listen. Let it surprise you. Just know that you like a good thriller and take a chance on it.

I will tell you this much. It's not overly religious in spite of the mention of angels in the title. It's far more about fate, about the little twists and turns that life takes, about the things you think about after they happen. Have you ever witnessed a bad accident in front of you and thought to yourself, Wow if I hadn't sneezed before I left the house, I would have gotten in the car 3 seconds sooner and that could be me! Well, maybe not the part about the sneeze, but hopefully you know what I mean. :)

There were only a couple of times when I wanted to hit the main characters on the back of their head for not taking action sooner. But that just means that I was emotionally drawn into the story, so I suppose that speak to Dan Alatorre's ability to hook me.

Narration by David Bosco was top notch. He puts the emotion right where it needs to be. There was a fair amount of hysteria on the part of women at times in this book, and that's not easy for anyone to pull off, but David managed it with grace.

Positive and enjoyable story

Author Dan Alatorre starts this novel with a fairly good backstory, but you may need to listen twice. I did and found so much I had missed the first time.

The remainder of the audiobook is mostly present tense, with a few flashes back to the main character’s childhood. Although the audiobook introduces the subject of good and bad angels, the story is not so supernatural to get scary. I did not enjoy the voodoo references and feel it was not necessary to the story.

Narrator David Bosco is fantastic. He does an excellent job of reading male, female and child voices. His best voice characterization is Tyree. He WAS that man!

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook and am so glad I listened twice.

Good and Evil

When I select books to read and listen to (disclaimer: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review) there is frequently a lag before I get a chance to actually enjoy them and I will forget what they were about. So it is always a delightful surprise to me when I discover a truffle within the colorful wrapper.

This was an interesting tale to be finishing just after Easter, the most important day in the liturgical year for Christians, since it involves and explores questions of faith within its thriller wrappings. Generally I was delighted with David Bosco's narration but do not agree with his characterization of the wife as sort of whiny. Otherwise, his pacing and voicing was excellent and highlighted the fascinating text admirably. There are a couple of characters whose stories cried out for their own book (Jimmy and Tyree)--in fact I can visualize this one on the big screen or a TV series . . . I'd love to know if you feel the same way!

Beautiful story

Beautifully written. At first I wasn’t sure about this book but 30 mins into it I was hooked. Things like to happen all the time but most people don’t recognize the signs. This may be a true story or it may be fiction but either way it makes one think, think about what may have happened in their past things that they never thought about before that may have been the direct result of an angel on their shoulder be it good or bad we all have a guardian angel.

More like Angel on Their Shoulders

This was wonderful. It starts with a horrible accident. But the next thing you know it goes to something else that has you thinking, what the heck did they mess up the story it's totally different now. It took me a little while to realize that the story was now in the past. It goes back and forth like that several times, so it eventually started to make sense. I hate spoilers so I'll leave it there.
The narration is superb he really brings the story to life.
