WELCOME TO SAFE HAVEN, POPULATION 907...

Nestled in the woods of Wisconsin, Safe Haven is miles from everything. With one road in and out, this is a town so peaceful it has never needed a full-time police force. Until now...

A helicopter has crashed on the outskirts of town and something terrible has been unleashed. A classified secret weapon programmed to kill anything that stands in its way. Now it's headed for the nearest lights to do what it does best. Isolate. Terrorize. Annihilate.

Soon all phone lines are dead and the road is blocked. Safe Haven's only chance for survival rests on the shoulders of an aging county sheriff. And as the body count rises, the sheriff realizes something even more terrifying—maybe death hasn't come to his little town by accident...

Run, catch, torture, repeat puhleeezz

Small town USA is infiltrated by a bunch of crazy sadistic soldiers looking for a particular person. They confront people pretty much one at a time looking for said person. Three main characters are the town's only hope (not really they basically just save themselves). Much like "Trapped" all the characters are confronted, some fall or something stops them from escaping and they're tortured, somehow manage to miraculously get away, run, fall or get stuck, tortured, run somewhere else blah blah blah. I did like this one better than Trapped and could at least finish it (couldn't with his Endurance). He does a really good job of describing the torture without being too "gross". I just wish he would come up with different "scenes" for lack of a better word. They're all the same. Run, trip fall or get stuck, be tortured, escape, run somewhere else and the whole thing starts over again. Uh, how about hide or run out of town or find weapons. Seems like a B rated straight to DVD story. The plot was unique in this one and the narrator did a descent job. Just all the running around haphazardly drives me crazy. If you're bored and don't have anything better to read give it a try.

violent, sick & twisted

I loved it. Absolutely not not for people with weak stomachs. Great fast listen. Sure to keep your attention. Thrilling, chilling, sickening. Descriptions of some events and situations are so over the top that it is funny. This author is terribly sick. I can't wait for his next book. I'm hooked.

Best listen this year! You won't be disappointed.

OMG! This was a refreshing rollercoaster ride of awesomeness! It grabbed me by the neck and never let go. Satisfying asphyxiation. Incredibly written and read.

A bit gory for me.

I found this to be too gory, and too much foul language for my taste. Story line was pretty darn scary which is good for a book called AFRAID. Narrative was really good.

Awesome!

What made the experience of listening to Afraid the most enjoyable?

The most amazing part of this audiobook is the voice impressions by Phil Gigante. He does a phenomenal job with all the crazy hillbillies in the novel. I absolutely loved this!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

So many to choose from! I think cray cray Eleanor was my favorite. I would have liked to know more about her. And Florence. She is an amazing character.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The different accents and voices were so diverse. I really loved those crazy hillbilly voices. I was so taken in my them!

If you could take any character from Afraid out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh wow. I think Florence. She wouldn't put up with bad service if that is the way the experience swayed. She tickled me.

Any additional comments?

I have to listen to all these audiobooks in the line now because of the great impressions. So worth the time!

The boogeyman is closer than you think

Would you listen to Afraid again? Why?

I've listened to it 3 times.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Santiago. The narrator made him come to life. The small glimpse into his pysche made sense that he would be a "chosen one" as it did with all of the chosen. However, what put this character over the top was the delivery the narrator used to give him life.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

Excellent!

Who was the most memorable character of Afraid and why?

Santiago, because of the narrator's delivery.

Any additional comments?

The story was engaging and almost made you feel as if this could really happen. Although, I don't know any small town in this day and age that would be so easily swayed, by the carrot that was dangled and the circumstances surrounding it. :)

Very Very Good!

It scared the crap outta me, made me laugh, cry, and most of all cringe! Another wonderful listen/read from Mr. Kilborn. I really like how the animals in the stories save the day become little heroes. I'm a sucker for animals, humans not so much...

Not as bad as everyone says.

So a lot of reviewers have a problem with the gore, however if you've read any killborn than you know thats kinda his gig. Honestly in reference to gore it was middle of the road, his Haunted House book was waaayyy more descriptive. In reference to this story and characters it was good, not too thought provoking but still entertaining and held my interest. I plowed thru it in a couple days.

Completely unbelievable, but still entertaining.

What did you like best about this story?

This story is chock full of gore. The story itself is kind of ridiculous, but if you like over-the-top violence, you'll like this book. Also, how can you not love a book that features both a human-like monkey and a loyal dog?
