Publisher's Summary

Todd, the youngest of four children, has a developmental disability that keeps him at home on the farm with his mother and father. One special holiday season, Todd hears an ad on the radio from a shelter looking for temporary homes for their dogs during the holiday week. When Todd's parents at last give in to his pleas for this charitable cause, the family is faced with an entire shelter full of dogs needing homes.

Using his special charms and gifts of persuasion, Todd encourages his whole community to help in the "adopt a dog for Christmas program" and, more importantly, teaches his family the true meaning of goodwill.

Wonderful book, I absolutely loved it!

This was such a heart warming story. It started out a tiny bit slow, but after a short time I was loving every minute of the book. This book made me feel such a wide range of emotions. At times I was chuckling and smiling and sometimes had tears in my eyes. It had such a wonderful ending. I would highly recommend this book to family and friends.

Be careful! If you don't have a dog already, you don't you'll want one by the end

This is a nice easy listen. I've listened to the story three times over the last few years, and I've enjoyed it every time. It's a heartwarming and uplifting story. The first time I listened, our family did not have a dog. This year, we're celebrating our second Christmas with our beautiful golden retriever. We had been looking for a dog for a while the first time we heard the story, and the story just served to make us want the dog even more. I guess there's no greater compliment to this dog loving author.

Loved it!

Such a heartwarming story with plenty of giggles. I didn't expect to get as sucked in as I did. Usually I am a mystery thriller horror story kind of reader but this was great. He is accurate on animal shelter operations and I love the message provided! A must for dog lovers!

Cute little holiday story

“Read” this for a book club. It was a cute, short read. Nothing complicated or stand out about it. Definitely something you could read with the kids, although maybe a couple adult words. Overall, nice, simple, well put together story.

A Very Pleasant Holiday Listen

This deal of the day has been sitting in my Audible TBR queue for a few Christmases now, and I am glad that I saved it to listen to during the holiday season! Set in Kansas, an older coulple and their disabled son find their lives - and really their whole community - changed when they take part in the Adopt-A-Dog for Christmas program with their local shelter. It's a sweet Christmas story that doesn't exactly break new ground, but is a heart-warming story that I can see being one to go back to again for the Christmas season.

And upon listening to this at first, I had no idea that it was part of a series or had become a Hallmark movie (with the same actor who plays Mickey in Shameless?? as Todd). I definitely want to try to track down the movie, and I will keep my eye out for more of the series to hit the Audible deals for next Christmas! The narrator performs this well, and while the story doesn't provide a diagnosis for Todd, the narrator has chosen a distinct speech pattern for him that is at least consistent, if not accurate with the novel (it's a bit distracting at times). But really, there is more to this than I originally expected - more backstory and action and it just kind of reminds me of those childhood movies... it doesn't have a modern feel to it, more timeless really since George's war time memories are vague enough to be interchangeable with almost any war... All in all, it's a nice Christmas story and though predictable, it is predictable in all of the nicest ways possible! It has certainly made listening to this, while coloring a Christmas gift with my dog laying beside me a very pleasant experience!

All the feelings!

This story had me crying more than once. But then I was happy. But scared, too. So many different raw emotions picked into a tiny book. Just what I needed.
