Publisher's summary

An epic novel of love and duty at war across the reach of time.

At the height of the air war in Europe, Captain Joe Farley and the baseball-loving, wisecracking crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Fata Morgana are in the middle of a harrowing bombing mission over eastern Germany when everything goes sideways. The bombs are still falling and flak is still exploding all around the 20-ton bomber as it is knocked like a bathtub duck into another world.

Suddenly stranded with the final outcasts of a desolated world, Captain Farley navigates a maze of treachery and wonder—and finds a love seemingly decreed by fate—as his bomber becomes a pawn in a centuries-old conflict between remnants of advanced but decaying civilizations. Caught among these bitter enemies, a vast power that has brought them here for its own purposes, and a terrifying living weapon bent on their destruction, the crew must use every bit of their formidable inventiveness and courage to survive.

A rare gem - Realism within fantasy

It is rare that someone can do a future past - fantasy and pull it off. Boyett and Mitchroney due it brilliantly. I was there, with the crew through out the whole ordeal. The story is both full of surprises and yet realistic. Lastly, what an ending. Nailed it. I can't say more without spoiling it.

Great Narration but not a good book.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book to a friend. The concept is great, but the author(s) don't really take it anywhere other than bubble gum, geewhiz, sci-fi. I wouldn't waste a credit.

What could Steven R. Boyett and Ken Mitchroney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The authors don't develop the characters enough. As a reader or listener in this case I never really cared about the characters. They seemed interchangeable really.

Which character – as performed by Macleod Andrews – was your favorite?

None really - some of the characters are a bit over acted but as i pointed out in the title of this review there wasn't much good content for the narrator to grab onto.

Time enough

In the tradition of the Piladelphia, final countdown and even the Time Machine, this is a great tale with plenty of heart. Excellent character development and clearly well researched. The reader's performance is perfect for the material.

I wasn’t sure about this book, but

I decided to give it a chance.
Turned out I enjoyed it so much I listened to it straight through to the end. The story was engaging. The narrator was great. The ending was poignant. It even had some laugh out loud humor.
I feel a little sad it’s finished.

overall quite good

Surprising and quite entertaining, with a certain element of real gravitas. My gripe is with the editors who somehow completely missed the five (at least) points that could have easily been perfect last lines. The fact that an otherwise very emotional and satisfying ending was allowed to drag on so much longer than necessary is a bit concerning.

Look to the future

Did not realize that this was going to be a story that takes place in both the past and the future. Have flown in a Flying Fortress loved the description of the bomb runs. Also liked the look to the future that may have been though it came as a surprise it all fit to gather in the end. Thank you fort he insight.
