Publisher's summary

When Dr. Alix Hendry purchases an old historic home in need of renovation, she had no idea how much her life is going to change. A divorced mother of two, she moves her teenage son and young daughter into a home known in the area as “Evenshade”. The home is one of the first built in Salem and has a dark history linked to the Salem Witch Trials, something that fascinated Alix. But that fascination soon grows to terror.

Enter Cord Trevor. A descendent of from one of the passengers on the “Mayflower” and also a descendent of Abigail Williams, one of the chief accusers in the Salem Witch Trials, Cord is a single father of three teenage boys and he immediately takes to his new neighbor, Alix. Handsome, hunky, he's a firefighter with a family legacy rich in history and witchcraft. Unbeknownst to Alix, Cord is a powerful warlock, something he keeps deeply hidden and repressed. But the gift is there, lurking, and waiting to be called forth.

As Alix and Cord fall madly in love, the dark secrets of Evenshade began to rear their ugly head. Alix's small daughter speaks of a “sad girl”, an imaginary companion they discover is not so imaginary. The ghostly girl who inhabits Evenshade is only the tip of the iceberg for an evil curse that soon threatens Alix and her children. Join Alix and Cord for a wild ghost story of horror, curses, passion, true love, and finally witchcraft, culminating in the ultimate battle for Evenshade - the ghostly occupants against those of flesh and blood.

Why isn't this book a movie yet?

I am a huge Kathryn LeVeque fan. This is my favorite contemporary novel of hers. The narrator is excellent, and able to convey all the emotions of the characters. The story moves along at a good pace. You can't help but root for the two main characters, Cord and Alix. Are there really men out there that are as thoughtful and deeply feeling as Cord? I say, absolutely! I married mine 20 years ago, and we love each other more today than 20 years ago. Please keep writing your contemporary novels! Just like the novels "Darkling, I listen" and "Purgatory", the stories just keep getting better! All 3 of these titles are worth your time to listen along.

Best ghost story I have heard in a long time

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely! This book had the perfect combination of romance, and supernatural chills. You get to know the characters well - you share their highs and lows, and you experience the haunting right along with them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Evenshade?

Whenever the sad little ghost girl is singing. Gave me goose bumps. Or Kitty's birth, I sat in my car to hear the outcome - I couldn't pause it in the middle until I knew how it would turn out.

Which character – as performed by David Brenin – was your favorite?

The four year old Rosie. David Brenin nailed it. Kids are creepy. If you have ever woken up in the middle of the night to 'Mommy' whispered two inches away from your face, it's a mini heart attack. This book has that same feel to me.

Any additional comments?

So good I want to listen again!

Would you consider the audio edition of Evenshade to be better than the print version?

No but pretty close!

What other book might you compare Evenshade to and why?

Kathryn Le Veque's other contemporary novel "Purgatory" because it involves the supernatural with ghosts & spirits too.

What does David Brenin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did an awesome job conveying the emotion in the dialogue between the characters! I really felt he was in touch emotionally with what each of them were feeling when he spoke their lines.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Did the spirits of the Salem witches really die?

Any additional comments?

I love the novel & the audiobook was great to listen to! Totally kept my mind engaged & listening for more even though I know how the book ends.

I Absolutely Loved It

This story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Kathryn Le Veque is absolutely brilliant. I do have to say that listening to this story was very much like watching one of those horror ghost and haunted house movies my husband is fond of watching. However, this book has much more than ghosts and ghouls. It has incredible love that will bring you to tears.

Incredibly Scary and Sexy

I enjoyed this audiobook a lot. It was well balanced in the ghost and romance department. The book is listed under romance/fantasy however it was rather frightening. There was great character development including the history of the house and of Cord's ancestors. The story was good right from the start. It was a little long but concluded very well.

Cord and Alix made a great couple with a little persuasion or maybe even some spell casting from Cord in the beginning, considering the fact that he is a male witch with excellent casting abilities. The romance was tasteful in all aspects therefore creating a great bond and trust for Alix who was reluctant at first...The kids were terrific, especially the baby Rose. The boys were typical teenage boys with pretty good manners. The new baby nicknamed Kitty was a great addition to the family.

About the narrator: David Brenin's performance was outstanding. He nailed every character and gave them all distinct voices and characteristics. He has perfect voice control and is a very skilled voice actor. And he kept the story moving at a good pace. He took a good story right over the top and made it a great story.

Overall I would definitely recommend listening to this audiobook especially if you love a little ghostly encounter with your romance. Great Listen!

Not what I expected

If you could sum up Evenshade in three words, what would they be?

I want him!

What other book might you compare Evenshade to and why?

Can't compare. I don't usually read this kind of book.

Which character – as performed by David Brenin – was your favorite?

Cord, ABSOLUTELY Cord!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Yours, Mine, Ours, Past, Present, Future

Any additional comments?

I don't have a clue what the narrator looks like but if this were made into a film, he needs to do the voice over for Cord!!
