Mark Twain once observed, "A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on." His observation rings true: urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus public-health scares circulate effortlessly. Meanwhile, people with important ideas (business people, teachers, politicians, journalists, and others) struggle to make their ideas "stick". In this indispensable guide, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds draw their power from the same six traits.

Every marketer tells a story. And if they do it right, we believe them. We believe that wine tastes better in a $20 glass than a $1 glass. We believe that an $80,000 Porsche Cayenne is vastly superior to a $36,000 VW Touareg, which is virtually the same car. We believe that $225 Pumas will make our feet feel better, and look cooler, than $20 no-names... and believing it makes it true.

Publisher's Summary
How do you cut through the noise, commotion, and bad information that is right now cluttering up your customers' digital space?
Epic Content Marketing. One of the world's leading experts on content marketing, Joe Pulizzi explains how to draw prospects and customers in by creating information and content they actually want to engage with. No longer can we interrupt our customers with mediocre content (and sales messages) our customers don't care about.
Epic Content Marketing takes you step by step through the process of developing stories that inform and entertain and compel customers to act - without actually telling them to. Epic content, distributed to the right person at the right time, is how to truly capture the hearts and minds of customers. It's how to position your business as a trusted expert in its industry. It's what customers share and talk about.
Once we hook customers in with epic content, they reward us by sending our sales through the roof.

I Should Have Started With This One...
I have read (and listened to) several books on content and online marketing. Most of them have several good points and one or two great points. Epic Content Marketing is the book that I wish I had started with! I thought that the listening experience would be filled with a lot of "yeah, I've heard this already" moments but it has been exactly the opposite - I have set an endless stream of bookmarks and I plan to go back and listen to the whole thing again later, in addition to studying the bookmark moments. Lots of gold here!

Eight and half hour long self promoting commercial
What was most disappointing about Joe Pulizzi’s story?
I'm disappointed with how little I got from this book, especially considering how long it is.
What didn’t you like about Joe Pulizzi’s performance?
I didn't like that the entire book was a blatant self promotion of the author's company and services. Basically the book just talks on and on about how important content marketing is, and that you should go to their website. There is little information on how to actually create epic content. The information contained in the book is very unstructured, the author openly says that the content in the book is just a bunch of their old blog posts put together.

The Exact Opposite Of Epic....
What would have made Epic Content Marketing better?
Something worth listening to. Imagine if you could turn celery into a book and then made it 8 hours worth of audiobook. That's just about what I experienced.
This was like listening to almost nothing for 8 hours. I lied. I couldn't do it. I couldn't listen the whole thing. I tried though...
The narration was fine. It was just that in every chapter except one, by the time I got about a third of way through it I realized I had wasted my time and then, I just couldn't go any further. Too frustrated, and times to the point of anger.
Even just typing that I feel surprised and strange. That's not me and not an experience I've had before. I'm an optimist. At the beginning of every single chapter I kept hoping things would change, but they never did.
I don't even know how you can write a book this long and say so little of transferrable value. If anything, I'm FAR impressed by what that than anything.
It was wholly superficial.
There were openings where there could have been value, but... nope. Just another quote stating the extremely obvious yet again.
I don't what was in this book, but epic it was not. I expectation of it being good I excited to get into. I even invested in the kindle book anticipating that I'd want to have a text reference.
Now I just feel ashamed and embarrassed for making that decision.
Would you ever listen to anything by Joe Pulizzi again?
Very much doubt it. Right now, honestly I feel like wasted a part of my life trying to find value in this book. Nothing against you Joe, but you called the book "Epic Content Marketing" and it was literally the exact the opposite.
What didn’t you like about Joe Pulizzi’s performance?
His performance vocally was just fine, but there no substance anywhere. I couldn't believe it, but there were literally times where I felt myself growing viscerally irate.
What character would you cut from Epic Content Marketing?
Wasn't about at all.
Any additional comments?
Only that I pray anyone who reads this does not make the same mistake I did.

Falls flat. Feels like a clone of better books.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Having listened to a number of other marketing books hitting the same key points, this point needs to drop the sense of convincing you by wearing you down, or convincing you that Epic Content Marketing is the huge notion that you've been missing out on, without ever talking to you about it.
I honestly think this book should do exactly what it is trying to preach, which is be boiled down to its essence so that it is of the most amount of value to the listener.
Would you ever listen to anything by Joe Pulizzi again?
I'd seriously think twice before doing it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator/author seems to slip into a professorial tone, as if he will convince you of what he is saying by talking about it long enough.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Epic Content Marketing?
I'd clean up the first half by removing the sense that the author is trying to convince you that Epic Content Marketing is a real thing without seemingly talking about it in the concrete.
Also, it is annoying for the narrator to talk to say things like "If you're reading this..." of course I'm not reading this, it's the audio book, so cut that out.
Any additional comments?
This book comes across as a "I'll do a book too" and then the author seems to become bored with it. There was no new insights relative to other books in the same space. Very disappointing.

Excellent read for ANYONE in content marketing.
What did you love best about Epic Content Marketing?
The step by step detail. NO fluff, ALL content and practical principles with how-to application advice.
What other book might you compare Epic Content Marketing to and why?
I don't know that their is anything like it? The content marketing niche is relatively new.
Have you listened to any of Joe Pulizzi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
N/A
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was not just 1 moment...the entire book was full of "AHA" moments.
Any additional comments?
If you are involved in growing a brand of any kind online, you NEED this book. PERIOD!

Let the brainstorming begin!
If you could sum up Epic Content Marketing in three words, what would they be?
Tactical. Inspiring. Insightful.
What did you like best about this story?
So strategic in its approach. An absolute how-to that makes it obvious that even the smallest company can go out and create epic content.
Which scene was your favorite?
Case studies were probably my favorite aspect of the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did want to, even though I wasn't able to. I did immediately restart it after it was done and started going through it again. That speaks highly about how much great information is in there.
Any additional comments?
This book is packed with amazingly useful, tactical steps to becoming a Content Marketing Superstar. I bought this Kindle version after listening to the audio version (which I'm listening to again, by the way). Every chapter had my brain cranking out ideas of how I could implement what Joe was teaching me. So inspiring!

So Much Great Info I Listened to Most of it Twice
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a great read for professionals who are fairly knowledgeable about blogs, social media, and content marketing, but need help using them most effectively in their companies and organizations. The book is logically organized and breaks this very broad subject into manageable pieces, making it simple to follow and find ways to apply them in my own organization--a membership association--not a for-profit company. Though I listened while driving, I could find what I wanted in the supplemental materials on his website. Book is full of great nuggets of information. Author Joe Pulizzi is an excellent narrator and definitely easy on the ears.

Why and how to grow your org by helping others
This book casts a compelling vision for the future of how to grow your business. Providing content that actually helps your target audience is both noble and profitable. This is the story of those who are already doing it (which includes both a fiberglass pool company and Coca-Cola International). And it's how to do it. Best book on the topic I've read.
So, so worth reading for any leader of any kind of organization.

Solid coverage of content marketing
Where does Epic Content Marketing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
There are not a lot of audiobooks available on the topic of content marketing. This is an excellent audiobook, made better by the fact that the author Joe Pulizzi narrates and makes the experience personal to audio listeners.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Epic Content Marketing?
Case studies, such as Red Bull that allow you to go see for yourself the principles being discussed.
Which scene was your favorite?
Building your Editorial Calendar
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Start pushing product and start engaging your community.

Just not sure about what the author is trying to convey. For a couple of chapters, I didn’t learn anything new. By the middle of chapters, I decided to quit listening the rest.

Good set of information for those new to the game
Good book full of some great details and insights. Some platforms are already good but the plan and technical application is on point. There’s not much here for someone already doing well with their long term content plans. But if you’re just entering the waters this is a must read.

Fantastic book!
At first I've found it a bit boring due to the author describing what is a concept marketing and why is it needed for quite a few chapters. I though this information was quite repetitive. Fortunately second half of the book was full of practical knowledge and examples and how to actually use content marketing in the business. Thank!
