Survival is no longer a choice. It's a game.

When the Doom System appeared, it shattered reality overnight. People took superhuman abilities, their only defense against a world that no longer made sense. But just as humanity began to adapt, the System changed the rules.

Now, survival isn’t just a struggle. It’s a competition.

For Hiro Johnson, staying alive has become a full-time job. The System twists the streets of New York into death traps, pitting survivors against monsters, hunters, and each other yet rewarding them with powerful skills and weapons.

But something is wrong. The System is failing. It glitches, hallucinates, makes up rules as it goes...

This isn’t just a death game. It’s a system breaking in real time.

And if Hiro can’t find a way to fight back, there won’t be anything left to save.

Don't miss the start of a new action-packed Apocalyptic LitRPG by bestselling author Harmon Cooper. It's perfect for fans of Primal Hunter, System Apocalypse, and Defiance of the Fall.

This was an amazing story about some humans needing to survive at all cost, but the better part was a few banded together to survive and live. I loved Hiro's journey even though it was hard, and he lost several friends he and the few who made it through are stronger than ever. I loved the battle of the doors because they were speaking in Latin, and I just had to know what they were saying. I am ready for the next Interim only if it is from this side of the screen.

There are some really cool concepts that are presented right from the get go. The apocalypse setting is interesting with everyone being the “main character.” Our main character has some really cool stuff going for him with his abilities. The story was gritty, fast paced and fun. The narrator delivered a solid performance.

Good start

The story is a chaotic take on system apocalypse. Lots of fight scenes and interesting abilities. Not enough humor for my liking but fast paced and action packed with character interaction to try to explain the chaos.
The world is offered super powers for the taking and everyone who took them is removed by the odd system and everyone left is then forced to interact with the system to compete as the main character.

Chaotic system

It felt like a lot of other books out now, maybe because of that, it didn’t really stand out as anything special. Authors sometimes try to copy something that worked for someone else instead of doing their own thing. I’m a big fan of house of dolls, there’s nothing like that.

the doom system arrives at Earth and open the doom gates. people went and those who did were given out superpowers and social collapse. we start with our totally not the MC who never did go to the doom. when suddenly the doom system tells everyone who never went to the doom gates they passed, and they are the MC and the choosen ones. the doom system killed everyone who did go to the gates and now they have a few days to go out level up against the monsters, hunters, specters, and of course their fellow humans. with less than 350 millions left its time to go out and fight and gather soal energy to level up, gain followers, and just try and stay alive

completely brutal, it's (bounce) awesome

Wow can’t believe it’s been ten years following Harmon ! Well first off I truly enjoyed this book the mechanics the insane AI the crazy monsters and characters. I can’t wait to read the next installment. I especially liked all the little Easter eggs and historical nods Harmon throws into all of his books get this one and read it now .

Doom System ! Boom

the fact that the narrator spends more than half the book with his "action voice" tells you most of what you need to know...
I like the idea of the book, but there's so much action it becomes exhausting...
I think that's intentional though to show the pressure the MC is under...
just not what I was looking for at the time...

might pick up the next one if that's the mood I'm in when it drops

too much action

the book was great though it did have issues
mainly when the MC reads off the countdown timer in sets of three. not sure if the author was padding his word count doing this or is like Sheldon from Big bang theory. the narration was decent though the narrator clearly likes his excited battle voice.

too much repetition
