Resumen del Editor

The apocalyptic event known as the Reset took place five years ago...

In the span of a few seconds, ninety percent of the world's population was killed by a mysterious alien force. The ten percent left had their memories wiped. They were given incredible superpowers and a LitRPG stat system that allowed them to advance their skills. But they lost a lot of technology in the process. Many lost their humanity.

Sterling Monedero was one of these survivors.

Given the ability of a necromancer, Sterling got a group of superpowereds together to fight off the monolithic alien crafts known as Godwalkers that caused the Reset.

Three years ago, Sterling failed.

Retiring to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Sterling now plans to live out the rest of his days growing chili peppers and minding his own business. He does just that until a local group of bandits known as the Killbillies come for him, hoping to collect a tax. As he defends his property, one of the Godwalkers appears in the sky and destroys his farm.

Now, he wants vengeance.

It's time for Sterling to embrace his necrotic powers as he journeys across the Southwest putting the team back together again. The Godwalkers must be getting power from somewhere, and through ancient, native knowledge, and a little bit of luck, Sterling hopes to run these alien overlords out of the Southwest for good.

It's going to be an uphill battle, but if anyone is up to the task, it is the post-apocalyptic pepper farmer some call the cowboy necromancer.

Immerse yourself in book one of this LitRPG western set in the post-apocalyptic Southwest, inspired by The Dark Tower, Old Man Logan, and Red Dead Redemption. Expect classes, leveling, and skill trees that will feel familiar to any fan of role-playing games or the GameLit genre. Add to that a heavily researched series that blends Southwest mysticism with high tech and dangerous monsters, all in a setting big enough for the Grand Canyon. The Cowboy Necromancer series is a story unlike any you’ve read in the genre, one that blends languages, culture, action, true history, and suspense as Sterling and his team of superpowereds try to stop the alien monoliths from destroying what is left of humanity.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Fantastic writing, outstanding characters, and a world so full of life you can practically taste the bite of hot chilis and road dust on your tongue as you read it. This series is one of my all-time favorites." - J.R. Mathews, author of Jake's Magical Market and Portal to Nova Roma.

decent entry to a new series

A little slow in the beginning but I was pretty hooked by the end and the setting and world are very interesting.

I really enjoyed this

The story is good, absolutely kept my interest. The narrator is really good, perfect voice acting for this book, didn't annoy me once. On to the next book in the series.

Strange change of pace

Not your normal sci-fi or fantasy book, which this book sits firmly right in the middle of between the two genres. Reads like the characters are in an actual RPG game, which is a core part of the plot. Leveling up, armor class, charms, magic weapons, all of it.

Narrator did an excellent job. Very clear and easy to understand. Good job differentiating characters.

Overall, the story was fun, but a bit hokey at times. Looking forward to finishing off the series.

Not normally a fan of LITRPG's but

I really enjoyed this book, it was fun, oddly educational about Peppers, Spanish and New Mexico (in a good way).

What a Ride!

Not a big reviewer of books, but after finishing this book, had to pop in here and thank the author for such a great story. Thanks. Mr Cooper, looking forward to see where you take this series.

Peppery goodness

Macleod Andrews delivers the goods with his deeply immersive performance of wonderful characters - major and minor. The post apocalyptic desert Southwest comes alive through the characters and action. In parts funny, sad and action-packed - a really imaginative tale spun by Harmon Cooper. I feel inspired to write a haiku to honor the listening experience.

Very Good listen

The book is over top and it only gets better from there. The person who is reading it does an amazing job of getting into the character. The explanation of the story goes great throughout the book. It even has some really great twists and turns. Takes a very big flavor from any video games if you have played any. If you are looking for a really good, gripping, and engaging story then this is the one you want. Definitely worth the buy.

Great Book

Matthew McConaughey does a great job narrating this book.

I thought the cowboy in black thing was going to feel a bit too worn out, but there is plenty that makes this pepper farmer way more than a worn out trope.

Solid B+

Beautiful descriptions and metaphors wrapped up in gruff western adventure. Not all of it is perfect, but the slow or empty parts did not overshadow the book's robust quality. Voice-acting is fantastic, as one expects from podium audio. There are too many moments where the main character re-explains what's happened over the course of the book, and should be replaced with "after catching X up on Y and Z,". It makes the character seem a bit odd. Also, his level-headedness is a bit inconsistent. It seems like the author was intending to incorporate some character flaws via unwise decisions, but they dont come across as vices so much as they do dumbassery. In a world where one needs to be ready to kill or be killed at the drop of a hat, you'd think a grizzled old badass wouldn't get shit-faced every other night. Overall though, this isn't that problematic and the story is full of incredible creativity, exquisite descriptions, and characters with character.
