Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Publisher's Summary
He woke deep within the ground, and the first sensation he felt was hunger. An overwhelming hunger for blood that demanded satisfaction. But as he hunted the dark streets of Paris for prey, a voice called to him, soothing, calming, giving him the strength to control his craving.
Francesca Del Ponce was a healer, a woman who radiated goodness as powerfully as the sun did light. But surely his obsession with her would turn him as his twin brother had turned, leaving the world with two monsters instead of one.

Terrible narration!
The narrator for this novel completely ruined the story for me. It was atrocious!!!! I've heard him read many stories, but never as poorly as this one. It left me feeling let down and I just couldn't get into the novel as I usually can. I felt distracted by the narration. Maybe he had a cold? I returned the book to Audible, it was so bad! I've not done that before!

Ugh! Bad name pronunciation.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I think it would be great to check on how the names should be pronounced. This isn't the first book in the series that ends up pronouncing names differently than other books in the series. I wonder if anyone though to ask the author how to pronounce the names. Consistency would be nice.
What didn’t you like about Patrick Lawlor’s performance?
The way he pronounced the names. Very distracting.
Was Dark Legend worth the listening time?
The performance was very distracting. I won't recommend it to my friends.

Worst Narration ever heard in a Romance Book!
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The storyline was great! Whoever chose this narrator should be fired.
What did you like best about this story?
The continuation of the story plots are good.
Would you be willing to try another one of Patrick Lawlor’s performances?
Absolutely NOT!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. The narration was SO bad, I could hardly stand to finish the book.
Any additional comments?
Whoever thought Mr. Lawlor could be the voice of a romantic Carpathian, (one of the strongest of the characters to date), has chosen badly. No changes in tone or voice to differentiate the characters but worse, NO SEX APPEAL WHAT-SO-EVER!

Good story but the narrator was terrible
The narrator was just terrible and very irritating to listen to. It was like nails on a chalkboard. To be honest I really didn't want to buy this book because of the narrator and I called Audible customer servicebecause there were two versions of the story one with another narrator who was clearly better but they said that they were reducing the volume and less confusion if they just had one version of the book!

Where does Dark Legend rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
bottom
What other book might you compare Dark Legend to and why?
Books in this series narrated by Richard Ferrone.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He continued to mispronounce Lucian name, it became so irritating. I have listen to other books where Lucian's name is pronounce correctly.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
could not finish it, based on the narrator.
Any additional comments?
The author or someone who knows these books should be involved in choosing the narrator. Someone need to do some quality control during production. This is not the first book in this series where the narration is terrible.
