Publisher's summary

The holograms lied to everyone on Earth, and only Alexandra Lucas knows the truth. Now she's trapped in the year 2359 without family or friends - and, worse, without her anxiety medication.

Alex attempts to reconcile the marvelous scenery, technological advances, and luxurious living with the knowledge that the holograms weren't being completely honest. What else are they lying about? With a secret that could shatter her society, Alex tries to find her place among strangers, convicts, and a rebellion striving to bring the holograms down. Alex struggles to find the best way to reveal the truth and reunite with those she loves. But when surrounded by beauty and every convenience, Alex wonders if truth becomes irrelevant in a perfect world.

Using a credit will lead to freedom!

I waited, just like everyone else for this one and let me just say... wow. This... series... was... WICKED!! This picks up right after the huge cliffhanger of book 1 and the author does such a fantastic job of creating a new world and brings you right into it. The author must have such a remarkable imagination because the futuristic world is so unique and creative that I couldn't help wonder what else could this world have to offer. There are some old world pop culture references sprinkled throughout this to give the new world some old world Science Fiction flavor. The characters are well developed and it is really great to see our main character Alex really come out of her shell and take on her new role as a leader, while still experiencing some of her flaws along the way. I was rooting for them all along the way. There is a range of emotions in this story and the narrator performs them magnificently. Her tone and pacing were on point, voices for each character were well done too. I think what was best about her performance was her robotic voice done for the holograms. It was consistent, monotone and really creepy at some points too which it should have been. This performance really brought something special to this book. I think the only thing I would have changed about this book is that we only got to see a small portion of the world's refugees and I am a nosy person so I would have liked to know how everyone was dealing with this life changing event. There is so much to like about this story and the entire 2 book series. It was bittersweet knowing that it is over because I certainly want more but thought this was a more than fitting ending to Alex and her family's journey. I would love to see maybe another book in the future or a few novellas focusing on the Vances or some other of the world's refugees. Vertexes, crazy sci fi elements, a little love, coming of age, ancient/ futuristic civilizations histories there is so much packed into this one. The author actually has a tricky way of making us think about the things we take for granted and how much we would miss those things should push come to shove. Using a credit will definitely lead to freedom.

Great story with such a great narrator!

Initially I choose this book because I loved the narrator: Erin Spencer(I fell in love with this narrator from “The Jewel” which is another great book btw). And this book got me more than I expected!
Very interesting storyline and hope this author writes another books!!

Thought Provoking

This was a good conclusion to the first book. It was fast paced most of the time and there were several twists I didn't see coming. If you read the first book and liked it then I'd definitely recommend reading this. I think I liked the first book more but this was still very enjoyable and thought provoking with some really cool ideas. This book definitely has more of a science fiction vibe and more action compared to the first one, with an interesting new world to explore and lots of new technology.
