The first book "Consider" did a remarkable job of setting up "What Happens Next?" I wanted to know what was on the other side. With "Contribute" that question was answered in an incredible world that yielded more questions as each mysterious layer of their new home was uncovered. As intriguing as the story was, it was the characters that made me want to turn the page. Alex and her struggles made her not only someone who didn't want to be a hero, but someone who felt she couldn't be. It was the other parts of her that made her strong - anger, love, guilt, regret and a drive to do right - that allowed her step up and do what was necessary even when she didn't believe she could. The supporting characters were strong and believable and drove this story forward. The sci-fi/fantasy elements were on point and truly enjoyed the entire experience. Excellent!
This book takes the young heroine Alex into a world beyond that of her first appearance in "Consider." I highly recommend this book, not only for teenage girls, but also for anyone who has experienced anxiety and/or so many other facets of the human condition. The exciting plot takes the reader into a new world, a feast for the imagination. As Alex learns to navigate this environment, so does the reader. Acevedo creates this world using so many references, both literary and real, to aid the reader's perception. I highly recommend this book.
Kristy Acevedo's follow-up to the phenomenal CONSIDER is just as phenomenal. These two novels mark the debut of a great storyteller. CONTRIBUTE is much more science fiction than its predecessor and the world Acevedo takes us to is one of wonder and terror. Her writing and grasp of character never falters. I cannot recommend these books enough.
Wow, I really enjoyed "Consider" and I loved "Contribute" even more! The society our characters are brought to is immediately suspicious, and I loved watching the twists and turns play out! This is going to be short because *spoilers*.
Contribute, and the first book in the series Consider, are two of the best books I've read in years. Fantastic world building, heroic yet flawed characters, and a truly different kind of plot, make these books sci-fi reads worth your time! I don't want to give away too much, but I promise you will not be disappointed! Just wait until the first Vertex shows up… start with her first book, Consider!
