Publisher's summary

Are you thinking about starting your own consulting engineering firm or professional design practice?

Perhaps you’re already managing a small business and are struggling with some of the challenges of getting work, managing resources, and dealing with a myriad of other concerns.

Or maybe you’re about to graduate and want to prepare yourself for faster advancement or owning your own business.

If so, this book will answer many of your questions and address your concerns as you work your way toward your goals. Applying the dozens of lessons and practical advice will save you the time, energy, and cost of learning them the way I did—the long way and the hard way. Adopting these principles early in your business career will significantly improve your chances of success and move you ahead of your peers who are not as well informed.

The lessons are grouped by topic:

  • Getting started.
  • Getting business.
  • Getting paid.
  • Getting refined.
  • Getting professional.
  • Getting protected.
  • Getting personal.

Includes 19 additional suggestions that are little only in the number of words taken to describe them. The final section, a career possibility, is an encouragement to consider the delights and rewards of living and working in a small town.

This book contains many lessons you will not find in other business self-help books. The format is easy to follow, and the lessons are clear and concise. You won’t be disappointed—I promise!

Highly recommended!!!

As a engineer in the middle of my career this book was an invaluable lesson. So much information to help me and reinforce my existing actions. The book was to the point, no fluff, I highly recommend!
