Story
The only survivor of the ill-fated ISA mission is now stranded on Mars. Having been designated a bio-hazard by Earth, any hope of returning home is all but gone. She is alone, isolated, and abandoned. That is, until another human shows up in the main colony airlock. However, he's barely alive and soon dies without regaining consciousness. More disturbing though, a DNA test identifies him as a colonist who has already died, several years earlier - impossible as that may be.

Story
Commander Scott McNabb, of the science vessel Hermes, is three years into a five-year-long survey of the asteroid belt. It’s an excruciatingly dull mission, yet it keeps him far away from the agencies that are chasing him down. However, his fortunes change, along with the other four crew members, when they discover a derelict spaceship in orbit around a binary asteroid. Scott’s share of the salvage would be enough to clear his name and start a new life.

Story
The United Nations of Earth sent out the Forerunner ships to explore and colonize the four most promising star systems within 50 light-years of Earth. Forerunner One left Earth under the command of Captain Clayton Cross, heading for Trappist-1. After a ninety year journey to reach it, the crew encountered not only a habitable world, but alien life already inhabiting it, and dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. The revelation of who these aliens are and what they want proves more terrifying than promising, and Captain Cross is forced to make tough decisions that will affect not only his crew, but the fate of the entire human race.

Story
The science vessel Hermes has been urgently recalled from its mission to survey the moons of Saturn, just as First Officer Miranda Lee receives bad news from home - her mother is dying so she must leave the ship and return to Earth - for good. Commander Scott McNabb is so distraught by her sudden decision to leave that he pays little or no attention to the parameters of the new mission being requested by the Council of Europa. Big mistake. Powerful forces on Earth are now moving to resume inter-AI communications, risking the development of an all-out war.

Publisher's Summary
All contact is lost with the first human colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility. The 54 colonists who called it home are presumed dead.
Three years later, a new mission sets down on the planet's surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. But it's not long before they realize the colony is not as lifeless as everyone thought. Someone is still alive - hiding out somewhere.
Yet, before they can find the elusive colonist, a strange illness starts to affect the crew. Pressure now mounts on biologist Dr. Jann Malbec to locate the source and find a way to fight it. However, as she investigates she begins to suspect a dark and deadly secret lurking within the colony. A secret that threatens not just the crew but the entire population of Earth.
With limited resources and time running out, she must find some answers and find them fast. Because if she doesn't, none of them will be going home.

One of too many stories of Zombies on Mars
I'll say no more about the story to avoid spoilers. I really wanted to like this book, as near future space is my favorite genre. But to a reader who love Stephensons Seveneves and Corey's Expanse, the writing is amateurish. Primarily dialogue. Characters are not developed and though apparently not to far in the future, a lone engineer has invented a true AI "little robot"...which no one seems to think anything of.

Oh, dear.
I'm really glad that I had previously read this book in print form. It's good, exciting, sci-fi and the series is enjoyable however the narrator is not impressive. If I hadn't already read the book I would have given up because her voice is incredibly irritating. This, obviously, is subjective and I would recommend listening to the sample before buying.

Good title, wish it had been a bit longer
Felt like little time was given to get to know the characters and their motivations. There is apparently a sequel so I hope some of the unanswered questions will be answered. Overall a good read though and will give the second book a whirl as the set up is interesting.
