Commander Scott McNabb and the crew of the science vessel, Hermes, are three years into a five-year-long survey of the asteroid belt when they discover a derelict spaceship in orbit around a binary asteroid. The ship contains an experimental quantum device, lost while en route to a research colony on Europa.

However, once word of the crew’s discovery gets out, they soon realize that ownership of this technology could fundamentally change the balance of power within the colonized worlds, and they now find themselves at the very nexus of a system-wide conflict.

Their fight for survival plays out across the solar system, from the mining outposts of the asteroid belt to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and from the great Martian city of Jezero to an irradiated wasteland on Earth.

This is an epic tale of humanity’s struggle for survival and meaning in a time when artificial intelligence has finally out-paced our own ability to control it.

this was an ok listen (Audible). something to divert your attention on a long trip. I am on the fence with my recommendation. Too much luck involved. Too many repeated phrases. Too much about the relationship and not enough about the science story. The background is severely glossed over.

interesting story.

I really enjoy this series but if you’re going to write an amazing book why not hire a good narrator too? I almost returned the series. I sped up the narration to 1.25 speed. Was the only way to tolerate the narration.

Great story bad narrator

This trilogy was a nice and relaxing weekend read. The 3rd book was my favorite.

Easy to consume and relaxing.

Sorry to say I really did not enjoy this one. It did not help that the narration was really bad as well.

Really annoying Narration of a story that went nowhere.

Easy to follow. It is a simple story, but it is very well laid out and kept my attention the whole time.

A light and fun listen.

I love Kilby’s trilogy the belt because it started out as a fairly normal mission and then they had one adventure after another in close calls. It truly kept you at the edge of your seat and you just wanted to keep listening.

It was a great space adventure

I’m usually a very forgiving viewer. This book was rather slow and I had to increase the speed of the narration, just so I would be able to pay attention. There’s some good components where it takes forever to get to the point I honestly gave up on the last book.

Boring
