Lovely classic Christmas story, interestingly read

What made the experience of listening to A Christmas Carol the most enjoyable?

I love the narrator's interesting reading, for the first minute or two, I was just listening to his voice, and then very quickly I forgot the narrator entirely and simply enjoyed his story! I think that is the mark of an excellent story-teller. I could see all the scenes in my head. I think I'll be listening to this version every Christmas! Thank you so much!

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Christmas Carol?

I must admit, I love the part about Tiny Tim the best, and can't ever hear, "God bless us, every one!" without blinking a few tears. Very dear.

What about Peter Bachelor’s performance did you like?

He seems to be a born story-teller, he makes the story interesting, with slightly different voices for characters, and reads with enough expression to be interesting but not so much as to be distracting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it is 2 hrs and 44 minutes, so it is a long story, but perfect if you're in bed with the flu and don't feel like keeping your eyes open long enough watch TV. You can just close your eyes and enjoy the story.

Sound quality

I felt the sound quality was poor. I had a hard time hearing throughout the story with the volume on all the way.

A classic, and well read.

The story is well known by most of us and it comes alive in this complete reading.

Truly enjoyable

This was perhaps my favorite audiobook experience. A Christmas Carol is Dickens at his best in showing the evils of woshiping money.

Hard to understand the speaker.

Hard to understand the speaker, not good at changing his voice for each person subject.

Reader's voice was hard for my kids to understand.

The reader's voice was nice and deep but my kids could not understand what he was saying so we had to buy a different audible book to listen to the story.

Great

This was very good the first couple chapter were not easily understood but other than that it followed my book At a perfect past. The voice was AWESOME it was cool to have the narrator exclaim speech when it needed to be. Overall I loved this. Thanks for an awesome experience. ( the voice was a little mumblie at the beginning)

There's a reason it's been copied so many times.

It's a beautiful story that can be listened through in one sitting, and then watch your favorite movie version - The Muppets?

Garble Mouth Narrator Ruins Book

Would you try another book from Charles Dickens and/or Peter Batchelor?

Peter Batchelor's accent is so thick I cannot understand half of the book. He shouldn't be a professional narrator. I didn't realize until now that we can buy audiobooks with different narrators. I will be much more careful of my selection in the future.

What didn’t you like about Peter Batchelor’s performance?

He talks like he has rocks in his mouth. I can only understand him when he does voices. My mind kept zoning out.

Was A Christmas Carol worth the listening time?

Yes, if read by the right person.

Try a different narration

The book is short, concise, and more funny than I imagined, having seen films but never read the original. Typical moralistic story of change you ways or else.....
The narration however is not good, sorry to Peter Bachelor. He reads the speaking voices very well, but the rest is monotonously spoken as if reading a bus timetable, thereby losing the meaning of some sentences. I downloaded this version because it was cheap, and I needed to read it for my book group, but if you love the story, I would recommend a different narrator.

Try a different performance.

It's Dickens at his best but the reading is poor. My humble advice is to listen carefully to the sample and then choose a different performance.

A great buy at Christmas

I think everyone must have heard or read some version of “A Christmas Carol”, of this much loved Dickens story, it appears to be faithful to Dickens story and I loved the narration by Peter Batchelor, a deep expressive, and mature British voice.

The price of the download is a bargain if you missed the Tom Baker version when it was on the advent offer. A great purchase at Christmas.
