About this listen

The modern classic of space opera that began with Children of Time continues in this extraordinary novel of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Earth failed. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carried its precious human cargo to a potential new paradise. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost.

Then strangers appear. They possess unparalleled knowledge and thrilling technology–and they've arrived from another world to help humanity’s colonies. But not all is as it seems, and the price of the strangers' help may be the colony itself.

Children of Memory by Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning author Adrian Tchaikovsky is a far-reaching space opera spanning generations, species and galaxies.

Absolutely amazing addition to the series. I could not listen to it unless I was completely focused. It’s so much information and was a little confused at first but that’s what I love about this author. You can not predict what is happening but it seamlessly comes together beautifully at the end.

Amazing

If you’ve read (listened to) the other books in this series and are excited for more this doesn’t disappoint. Another excellent book. I cannot wait for the next one!

As close to perfection as I can give it.

Love Tchaikovsky’s writing. This is one of his most philosophical reads and I enjoyed it, though not as much as the earlier books in this series.

Another solid read

Good character development, from previous novels in the series. Loved the ending really came full circle and was even tender.

Good Adventure!

Poorly constructed plot around a moderately interesting idea. Would have benefitted from expanding the story after the reveal.
Also annoyed by the unsatisfying explanation of another “intelligent” species.

Worst of the series with an unsatisfying conclusion

Like others have noted, there is a good deal of repetition. philosophical pondering, and very little story.
As usual, the parts of the book that are Sci-Fi are fantastic. Unfortunately, those parts only comprise about 20 percent of the book. The rest is philosophical/political commentary and the repeating of those commentaries over and over again. By the end of the book, it feels like you've been in a dream. you listened to a book for hours. but hardly anything has really happened.
Also, someone should do count of how many times the term "bootstrap" is used. I'm sure it's more than necessary.
Narration was superb.

The Weakest of the Trilogy

The book continued the series' theme of exploring novel life and thought processes. It maybe spent a little long in the village, and I would have liked a bit more exploration of the alien device at the end, but overall it was an enjoyable read, and I love the delivery by the narrator!

Not what I expected, still an interesting read

I wanted to go on an adventure. ;)
This was a good one, but different than the last two book. I still loved this, although I’d say more because of the interesting ways sentience is explored than previous adventures like detailing the emergence of spider society.

This is an important work, definitely suggest a read. And maybe have a few meditation sessions between some of the later chapters.

Thoughtful take on sapience

that ending got me in the feels. this is my favorite of the three of the series so far and that honestly surprises me after how much I loved the first book.

I thought I knew where it was going but....

Wow... that was one creative book. Don't listen to me or the naysayers, this is a book you need to experience for yourself to see what you get from it, nothing anyone else says will get the point across about the story.

What a thought provoking study
