It's Cherry Blossom Time again

So here we are, back again with book three of the CBG’s and the story keeps rolling along nicely. Before I begin talking about the book I do want to discuss a controversy that I have long been saying is true. I honestly think Gideon was modeled after our intrepid narrator, JTJ. Just look at them side by side in comparison. There is simply no denying that Justin is Gideon, but both he and Cooper say nay nay to that idea, but I say that not only is Gideon based on Justin Thomas James, that so is the original GI Joe action figure. Just look at the side by side. That means that JTJ is a real American hero! (But he’s Canadian!) Ah, but he’s North American, so he’s still a real American hero. That means that:
He'll fight for freedom wherever there is trouble,
JTJ is there!
JTJ...
A Real American Hero
JTJ is there.

All right, enough goofing around, thanks prop guy! Like I said, it’s Cherry Blossom Time and you should be very thankful that Harmon didn’t name them the Apple Blossom Girls or I would have been singing you an Andrew Sisters tune from the forties rather than the GI JOE theme.

Book three pretty much picks up right where two left off. Right away we get to see the squad get even more participants, as Gideon picks up another angry hottie and three super teens. Funny how quickly harems grow once they get started. Of course trouble soon follows the addition of the ladies and the team is quickly forced to fight for their lives and freedom. Mel Gibson styled Freeeedoooooommmmmm).

The book is funny in a lot of points and I found myself laughing quite a bit. One thing I did have to wonder about, was whether Harmon Cooper gave a nod to Laurie Catherine Winkel with one of his comments. If you get a chance she stars in a video on You tube called Road . . .Head, and Gideon makes an off handed way. The connection was too funny even if it was unintentional. You get that the book alternates between humorous bits and full blown superhero battles with touches of sexiness sprinkled about. I think my favorite bit was where Gideon was talking to Luke about author titles. I actually laughed so hard that I went back to listen to it again because I missed so much of it. Now, If I could only figure out a way to convince Cooper to have Gideon and Luke to talk about an old fat guy who reviews audiobooks. . . . Still, I hope you realize that I really “get” Cooper’s humor style. The story carries forward just enough that I don’t feel like it isn’t going anywhere, and as per usual he gives us a big reveal at the end of the story. He knows how to keep you interested and on fleek. I have to admit, I have no idea what that even means. On fleek, wtf millenials. WTF?

If you can’t tell I really love SBT and I contemplated not doing two of their books in one episode since I’m wasting very good SBT Spotlight for next week, but this is the naughty special, and both of these books fall into that category. All I can say is that this is a definitive SBT team, the audible avengers have assembled to give us an amazing story. As always, their quality is beyond reproach and they make this whole crazy story so believable.

My final score is 8.1, since the story (much like MSE’s Tamer series) seems to give us just a taste of the bigger picture without a lot of forward movement. Either way, excellent book, amazing series, incredible writing, infectious humor, and intense audio work combine to make this something you won’t want to miss.
Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

An Enjoyable and Exciting Adventure

I’m a good way through the third book and am having a great time. MC narration is pretty good but makes MC sound like a bit of a prude sometimes but may be getting away from that attitude. All voice actors are awesome doing a great job.

I had to rewind a couple of times because I could have sworn he said there were sad palm trees 30 miles outside of Reno. Sure enough, he said palms!

Reno is in a high desert adjacent to the Sierra Nevada’s and palms decidedly do not grow wild here. Its a very minor nit-pick on my part but I thought it was funny.

I like the storyline, it keeps me interested and makes me want more. I enjoy seeing the MC becoming more and more of a protector but he seems a bit over cautious at times. I get that it’s for a very good reason and is appropriate for the story but I wish he would start trusting his girls more. They may have started out naive but have really come into their own.

I am looking forward to finishing the series and learning how far their travels go.

Not what I hoped for

It had some interesting moments, but on the whole wasn't very enjoyable. And dang, that was some gorey violence against that child. Not my cup of tea.

Taking the offensive

Our team is tired of being on defense and ready to start kicking butt.

This is book three in the series and while it stands on its own, there are a lot of references to past events, so it is best to experience them in order.

I am really enjoying this SF superhero harem story. The story is well written with plenty of action. The characters are also great. particularly the ladies. Our hero is a bit annoying at times with his inner monologue and verbal diarrhea, but that just makes it more fun when the ladies call him on it.

Overall, the story is very enjoyable and easy to listen to. I am definitely looking forward to the next book

It brought me back

This story brought me back to where I thought it would be. Crazy powers, new subjects, and a twist. Granted, I just read through the series on Kindle Unlimited, so I'll try to remember where it left off in Book 3.

Basically, at this point, you should already either be hooked or looking for a reason to leave. The former is more likely than the latter, and with the little twist, it adds so much more to the story. Ultimately, this is the book that hooked me and kept me invested in the series.

As always, there are sensual/sexual things in this book, but I usually just hit the skip button over that. You'll have to read someone else's review of those parts. They are filler to me.

Overall, this book was great. Kept me engaged all the way through and his meta-writing technique is unique enough that it had me chuckling to myself and shaking my head. Great writing style and great book.

Best of the 3 thus far

The new additions to the story were a much needed extra dynamic the story needed. Also the author did a much better job with , "wait, What?" moments. The only thing I could suggest to the author is to do some home work on explosives and such. For example, blowing up a car ( gasoline as the explosive ) in a reinforced room designed to hold the incredible hulk wont blow up the building, or even damage the room.

The action in and out of the bedroom continues.

Every time I listen to a new book in this series I notice again how much I like the point of view in these books. Namely the mc being the writer of this book. The action is intense, I like the characters and everyone has a human feel to them. If you liked the previous books this one shouldn't disappoint.

Monotone

It feels like we are just going through the motions with this book, nothing to pull me into the story its the same as the last two.

Loving the series

Loving all three of the books, I'm looking for the other two in audio form. The story line flows and lots of surprises. The adult parts also make you chuckle. If you like litrpg thus may not be the ideal book for you but there are large references.

Another Hit story

Having become a fan of Harmon work its even better when you can raise the standards even more with audio.
Enter SBT who take a very good book and raise it to the stratosphere.
As this is book 3 the characters are familiar and outside the addition of an increasing CBG presence this story develops well and even Gideon who i also felt was a weak character in terms of likability has thawed me.
Special mention to JTJ for this i think as well as this does help.
Sorry HC but despite all the new characters and exciting developments my favourite part of this audio is still the Narration from Annie. SBT overall is great and the use of multiple narrators helps im the realism a lot but AE just makes Grace so sexy it's hard not to become a fan of the CBG audio series.
