Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Four by Scott Galloway, read by Jonathan Todd Ross.

For all that's been written about the Four over the last two decades, no one has captured their power and staggering success as insightfully as Scott Galloway.

Instead of buying the myths these companies broadcast, Galloway asks fundamental questions. How did the Four infiltrate our lives so completely that they're almost impossible to avoid (or boycott)? Why does the stock market forgive them for sins that would destroy other firms? And as they race to become the world's first trillion-dollar company, can anyone challenge them?

In the same irreverent style that has made him one of the world's most celebrated business professors, Galloway deconstructs the strategies of the Four that lurk beneath their shiny veneers. He shows how they manipulate the fundamental emotional needs that have driven us since our ancestors lived in caves, at a speed and scope others can't match. And he reveals how you can apply the lessons of their ascent to your own business or career.

Whether you want to compete with them, do business with them, or simply live in the world they dominate, you need to understand the Four.

One of the best books I've ever came across. Intelligent, profound, bold, funny and eye-opening.

Very insightful knowledge for living with the Four

This book brings up many points you may not have considered about the four. Shinning a light on them that is more scrutinising than most media that just idealises them.

Good if you’ve never heard of Scott Galloway

I am a fan of Scott Galloway, and watch his YouTube channel religiously, which when reading this, was a blessing and a curse. Much of what I have heard here I have seen previously in his YouTube videos. That’s not to say it’s not good stuff, but not as enlightened as I had hoped.

I also would have preferred it if he were reading the book as I think a lot of his dry comments and colloquial nature was lost with such a polished and enthusiastic sounding guy.

Kudos to Scott though - was eye opening to hear just how much he has done in his career and the advice given was excellent.

Insightful, entertaining, compelling

A fantastic insight into the workings of the big four with a wry, often amusing but skillfully constructed appraisal of how these companies operate and engage on the global stage with competitors, each other, customer and government.

A bit flat on story and new material.

I listen to a lot of this these type of books, and the biographies of the people they're typically based on.

This book felt a bit flat for me, and more of a regurgitation of other books I've listened to. I feel it lacked in the storytelling department and didn't really bring anything new to the table.

It would probably appeal more to people who haven't read much involving the companies and people mentioned (e.g. Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Google, Jeff, Steve, Mark, Sergey, Larry).

Four'kin Phenomenal

What other book might you compare The Four to, and why?

Non. It's unique

Any additional comments?

I've bought close to 100 audiobook's, I have never even come close to finishing one, let alone reviewing them. Either the narration f*cks me off or the subject (All non-fiction book's) bores me, and I have had some "Classics" in my library.

This is different. It's a MBA in book form, just upon completion of said MBA, you don't get to walk into any job, probably for the best, if you're not getting bent over the desk, you'll be under it....Zzzzip.

What you do get is indispensable knowledge from the gangly-bald-brand-genius that is Professor Scott Galloway. If you are aware of him through whatever medium you receive his dry wit (Drier than Ghandi's flip flop), you'll be disappointed at first that he doesn't narrate himself, but then you'll be amazed at how much justice Jonathon Todd Ross does to Scott. The Professor missed a trick not narrating, especially as, of writing, Facebook's stock has just had $58bn wiped off after being rocked by the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I think this book will therefor be looked upon as a modern classic and a guiding-prophetic-light.

Buy it, or don't. I doubt Scott would give a f*ck either way

No BS, straight talking insight

Where does The Four rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 5

Who was your favorite character and why?

n/a

What does Jonathan Todd Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Not necessarily but was easy on the ear.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, but its full of terrific analysis and insight.

Any additional comments?

A great read, only criticism is that it was too short. Yes, lots of this material is available [free] from other sources, but this is a useful concise, logical and crystallisation of his thoughts and analysis.
