Zack Smoker (“Smoke”) met Lillian Rouse at a bar and was intrigued. But after a bad marriage, she is here for a new start, not to let her heart get broken again. But as luck would have it, she starts her new job, only to find out that he is one of the owners of the business. Although she works directly for his partner, Lydia, he is still technically her boss. And he is relentless in his pursuit of her. Will she continue to push him away? Or will he find a way to get to her heart?

The narrator for the audiobook is Rowan Marlowe. She does a great job with the voices to make it easy for the listener to get an accurate idea of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood and is an enjoyable way to “read” and enjoy the book. And the dialog is very natural and comfortable which again pulls the reader into the story that smoothly flows from start to finish.

Good stories where the characters are real people. real life scenario. I am looking forward to the next book. I really want a happy ending for the superhero dog.

I really loved this book. It was amazing to read . The plot and the story line was interesting. While the characters were freaking extraordinary.This book is a must read.

Burn for Me

Burn for me is a office romance between the company owner, Zack or Smoke, and Lillian or Whiskey a new secretary. They first meet in a bar not having any idea who each other are and come up with the nicknames. Lillian is getting divorced from a terrible husband. If you can think of it Lillian's ex probably did it to her. The chemistry between Whiskey and Smoke is intense. Smoke always says I want you to burn for me Whiskey. Whiskey lives in a bad neighborhood and after a break in she has further trouble. I was shocked by who rescued her at the end of the book. I didn't see that coming at all. I also didn't realize there was another book until the end of this one. Smoke is a good supportive man who truly wants the best for Whiskey. Looking forward to reading the next book. This book is good and short.

Book 1

This is book 1 in Monroe's Whiskey and Smoke series. Be forewarned that this book ends in a cliffhanger so - there's that. This book was a back and forth for me - I think that it really could have been so much better had it had dual narration - while Marlowe did a good job I think a deep, raspy voice for our lead male Smoke would have made it all the more tantalizing. Also, I had a hard time with our leading female character, Lillian. She just seemed all over the place. Sometimes she came thru with strength and other times a complete push over that I just really didn't connect with her at all - as a victim or someone who had some fight in them. Smoke seemed to be a more consistent character but even he would pursue her then back off and back and forth it went. Overall it's well written with smooth flowing storyline told in a dual point of view so there is some repetition but not overly so. Sweet and steamy balance and the cliffhanger has be definitely wanting more so...yeah

Whiskey needs a Smoke

Lilly/Whiskey (h) has a new job in a new town as she rebuilds her life after her divorce from her ex, Wade. She meets Zack/Smoke (H) briefly at a bar and there's attraction, but the timing isn't right. It turns out that she's the new employee at his company and the two begin a push-pull relationship with one another. It takes a bit for their heat level to get fiery, but when it does, it's hot. Unfortunately for Zack, Lilly isn't ready for a new man to be in control of her life. But Lilly's past isn't finished with her and there are dangers ahead. The story took a bit to build but when it did, it was good, and things moved with plenty of passion and drama. Whew, what a cliffhanger - can't wait for the second part of this duet.

Sweet & Sexy Romantic Suspense!!

Lily, sweet naive Lily. She is such an amazing character. She was in an emotionally abusive marriage and doesn't entirely realize that her (almost) former husband was a truly horrible person. The author does a great job giving Lily life and character, while still remaining a survivor of a horrible marriage. While, I did hate when Lily made some questionable choices (because she's an abused person and doesn't know how to think like a non-abused person) it was good for her character and I thought the author did a fantastic job of it!
Zack (Smoke) is an interesting character. He sees a pretty lady in a bar one evening while waiting for a client to arrive. And he can't get her out of her head. I liked his protective instinct because he was able to see clearly what Lily couldn't.
I enjoyed Smoke and Lily's interactions and how positive they were.
The story ends on a cliff hanger, though the second story is coming out soon!!

Note: I love Lydia. She's a peach of a character!! Plus that dog!!!

I liked the narrator. I thought she did a good job of differentiating the voices of Lily and Smoke, plus the other characters as well.

Slow to start…

This book took me awhile to get into. The characters are cute but I don’t know if it is the story or the narrator but something made it hard to get into and really connect with the characters.

Narrator was ok. I’m partial to my favorites. It was the last 3-4 chapters where I started to feel invested. I will listen to the next and go by ear.

Omg! This is such a great will they won't they story! With all sorts of under story, and character depth. My eyes teared up more then once. Can't wait from the second installment!.

Cliffhanger!

This was my first Olivia Monroe's book, a Romantic Suspense. This is the first book in the Whiskey & Smoke Duet. Zack (Smoke) and Lillian (Whiskey)'s office romance is fast-paced, steamy, and suspenseful, filled with danger, angst, and twists and turns. The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to listening to Burn with Me, the second book in the series. Rowan Marlowe did a great job with the narration.
