Publisher's summary

Five stories about a man who seeks justice for those who have been wronged after the system has failed them. Paul Jekyll, a man of the sea--a renegade, a pirate, a violent man--he seeks out truth and justice for those who have been denied by corrupt government officials by means not available within the system. At his side supporting him are Hibiscus, a voodoo princess, and Blackbeard the parrot--named by none other than Edward Teach three hundred years ago. The first story, Escape, takes place during the era of pirates, buccaneers, and HMS ships roaming the coast off Charleston. Our next glimpse of Paul Jekyll is during the Falkland War on a remote island as the battle between Britain and Argentina heats up and Paul negotiates a deal that soothes ruffled egos in "Exactly Why are We Here?" Chief, Paul's first mate, creates beautiful art from the bones of whales littering the beach while Paul writes a research paper on a remote whaling station near Antarctica. We move forward through time to Kingston Town, Jamaica, as Chief introduces Paul to Hibiscus and Blackbeard the Parrot in "Challenge Coins." Hibiscus, a respected voodoo priestess, owns a dive on the outskirts of town, where she and the parrot patiently awaited the return of Edward Teach. Seven years later in Miami, Florida, Paul receives a call from Chief in Siesta Beach Sarasota, Florida to "Come See My Bar." Upon arrival he discovers Hibiscus and Blackbeard the Parrot are employees of Chief's new bar. The mystery of the voodoo princess deepens as Paul deals with Chief's medical issues and running the bar. "Murder from Afar" highlights the power of Hibiscus and lends credence to her claims of the reincarnation of Edward Teach.
