Wynn Hygeort is stunned when Magiere and Leesil, along with the elven wolf Chap, show up at the Guild of Sagecraft. But Wynn cannot leave with her friends - she still must access the texts within the Guild’s archives, which may help her divine the locations of the last two Orbs sought by the Ancient Enemy. To complete her task - and protect the Orbs - Wynn must remain sequestered from her friends. But she’s essentially a prisoner. One of the Guild’s superiors is just as eager for Wynn to translate the ancient texts, but she knows the others will not permit her to share that knowledge - knowledge Magiere and Leesil desperately need if they’re going to stop the Ancient Enemy from unleashing war on the land....

Honestly, I really enjoyed the first 3 books. The series has slowed to a crawl though and this is where I get off. I finished the book, and again, there is essentially no emotional payoff for taking the journey.

No spoilers, but there is essentially zero vindication for the main character and it’s hard to continue to listen while the character is just crapped on by everyone else, all while unnecessary secrets are kept.

If you want me to believe everyone wants to keep a secret, give me a better reason than “ancient enemy.” The panic is not convincing. People are complacent. X action throwing X group into turmoil is not a great plot device because it just often isn’t how people would truly react. The last few books have relied heavily on this concept, and tie that in with just no real victory for the main character and redundant story telling (we do not need 5 perspectives of the same moment), I’m out. Looking for another series now.

Slow, redundant, no emotional payoff

First I'm going to start by saying I skipped the second series of books because I do not like Wynn as a character and did not wish to read a whole series with her at it's head. This book made me glad that I did. The plot barely moved anywhere and was overall a very unsatisfying story.

subpar drawn out plot

The narrator read too quickly. It was hard to get into a good rhythm. The plot was drawn out. most of the book took place inside the guild centered around the rescue of Wynn. It's a drug out cash cow that I've invested a lot of time in so now I am doomed to continue reading until I've finished it. This entire book could have been consolidated into 2 good chapters....
