Publisher's summary

From the number one New York Times best-selling author of This Is Where It Ends comes an intense story of loss and the quest for truth.

Corey and her best friend, Kyra, are inseparable. Corey is the only person who understands Kyra's high-highs and low-lows. So when Corey's family moves away from their Alaskan town, she makes Kyra promise to stay strong during the long, dark winters and wait for her return. Except Kyra doesn't. Two days before Corey is to visit, Kyra is found floating underneath the ice.

While everyone in Lost Creek deems Kyra's death a suicide, Corey knows something is wrong. With every hour, her suspicion grows. The town is keeping secrets - chilling secrets. But piecing together the truth about what happened to Kyra may prove as difficult as lighting the sky in an Alaskan winter.

No...

I hate giving bad reviews...
I finished this book because it was short.
I'm not satisfied with it.

The main character feels empty and replaceable, just a name that reacts to situations. I constantly forgot and mixed up characters, (the main character, the bipolar bff and the two guys at the end). I kept drifting in and out and had to rewind a few times. There is a lot of chapters that flip flop all over a time line, and chapters that are just scripts as if the author didn't have time to flesh out a finished story. At first I thought the script scenes would reveal it as a spying characters point of view from the outside, but it is not... and finally, there are various chapters that are letters/diary entries that give the audience understanding but not the characters. All of the characters do not seem realistic at all, like when *spoiler* the towns people have a weird hive mind and try to kill the main character or threaten her a bunch, she just acts as if it is normal and it didn't happen... There are a bunch of whispering ghost scenes that fall flat and are not explained.

The book is depressive on all levels.

Glad it is over, but hate that I have to review it so soberly.

Emotional Journey

Narration was fabulous. Suspense was there, kept you hooked. Brough tears to my eyes. Characters seemed so alive. Great book.
