Too basic

Not much material and the stuff that was is pretty much all commonsense. I didn’t really get anything out of it

WELL ORGANISED BOOK

This book is pretty good. It has several trails in it. We were looking for some several day trips and this book seems to cover some options. I keep looking for something to show me hikes that are off the beaten path but, as with most books they focus on those that are part of the AT. As we plan on doing the AT we want to do some other trails this summer instead of doing part of the AT until we are actually doing that part of the AT.

GREAT OVERVIEW GUIDE

The book is extremely user-friendly and the section on footwear was a gold mine for me. Appendix C has a checklist of gear to shop for, and I'll be taking this guide to the store. Appendix B has a list of books, magazines and websites for still more information, although the book itself is a hiker's bible. it is highly recommended book.

GREAT BACK PACKING FOR YOUTH

When I started backpacking, I put my traditional canoe camping gear in a big pile, and then bought a backpack big enough to carry it all. It weighed over 60 pounds with food and water for an over nighter. I wish I had listen this book first, It would have saved me from becoming a pack mule and dreading the long walks weighted down like a Sherpa.
Excellent , funny and well illustrated.

GREAT INFORMATION AND LOVE THIS BOOK

What made the experience of listening to Backpacking the most enjoyable?

I'm new to backpacking, and haven't camped for about 15 years. When I did camp it was in the west coast deserts, or redwoods. I'm now in the hot and humid Georgia terrain. I was pleased to find information on all types of trips from desert to ice, and everything in between. Also there is a resource page for any information that would go beyond what they wanted to cover.
I even enjoyed listening information I already knew. But most of all, I enjoyed finding a bunch of information that I didn't know.
This book is a great resource for the beginning backpacker

What was one of the most memorable moments of Backpacking?

I was given this book during a survival course I took while stationed in Alaska. I bought the entire series after that and love them, that was my memorable moment

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes ofcourse

Any additional comments?

Excellent book. I love this whole book series. Great for all ages. I especially like that the illustrations add their own information to the book and don't just serve to illuminate the text
