Publisher's Summary

Told by the man who kicked off the infamous lawsuit between Oprah and the cattlemen, Mad Cowboy is an impassioned account of the highly dangerous practices of the cattle and dairy industries.

Howard Lyman's testimony on The Oprah Winfrey Show revealed the deadly impact of the livestock industry on our well-being. It not only led to Oprah's declaration that she'd never eat a burger again; it sent shock waves through a concerned and vulnerable public.

A fourth-generation Montana rancher, Lyman investigated the use of chemicals in agriculture after developing a spinal tumor that nearly paralyzed him. Now a vegetarian, he blasts through the propaganda of beef and dairy interests - and the government agencies that protect them - to expose an animal-based diet as the primary cause of cancer, heart disease, and obesity in this country. He warns that the livestock industry is repeating the mistakes that led to mad cow disease in England while simultaneously causing serious damage to the environment.

Persuasive, straightforward, and full of the down-home good humor and optimism of a son of the soil, Mad Cowboy is both an inspirational story of personal transformation and a convincing call to action for a plant-based diet - for the good of the planet and the health of us all.

Good as expected without Lyman voicing it himself

Lyman in himself proves that if an "everyday" can make the connection and go vegan then any man can. He will be remembered as a pioneer of both the ethical and climate Vegan movements.

Mindboggling

Where does Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the most amazing and influential books I have read to date.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat?

Where he talks about when he decided to have empathy for the cows he had lived off of for decades. The leather couch part was really surprising and beautiful.

What about Dave Wright’s performance did you like?

He did a marvelous job of reading the book!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!! I was not able to but I read it very fast :)

Any additional comments?

I am so grateful to Howard and I so look forward to meeting him someday. I hope to bring him to my Spokane VegFest sometime :)

Life changer

I want to send this book to everyone. It's an amazing insight into our food and how we should respect ourselves and the environment in looking into the food that we eat and support with our wallets and taxes.

Very good read.

Enlightening and inspiring. Takes a real life look at our food supply and how we're all brainwashed to believe in big agriculture. Very true facts and great audible.

Exposing the industry of food in a clear, unsettling, convincing way

I’ve known about certain aspects of the food industry specifically the beef industry but it wasn’t until listening to this book that I became aware of the severity that is the business of food in the US and how it is time for us to stand up and really demand healthy and humane food production methods. Thanks for writing this book and sharing your story.

Save yourself, save the planet

This should be read by everyone. Mr. Lyman lays out in plain talk the truth behind the meat and dairy industry, and what it means to your health, the health of the planet, and of course the animals. As a vegan I have read many books on the topic. This is by far my favorite. He spells out exactly the cause and effect of so many things, and does it without sounding pretentious. He’s just a down to earth 4th generation rancher in the heart of cow country who changed his life for the better.

Side note: as a fellow Montanan, I could relate to the struggles and lifestyle he faced.

Truth about cattle & beef<br />

This is a wonderful book about the cattle industry that everyone should listen or read. We believe that the USDA protects us but we can only learn to protect ourselves. What we believe to be true is usually not so just because our parents, schools & others tell us something or do certain behaviors doesnt mean that it is true or good for us. Howard Lyman shares his story in a wonderful way. I had already started eating a whole food plant based diet which is no animal products, no oil, no sugar or no processed foods so I didnt need any convincing about that, altjough if I hadnt it sure wouldve made me research what I was eating more. This book brings to light how things have changed in agricultural & how chemical company's are controlling agriculture. I enjoyed his stories & highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the food we eat & how what we eat affects our world.

This book is eye opening. Written from the heart and excellently narrated. Books narrated by the author seem to connect better.
