The frontier’s shadows hid monsters. The guild hides something worse.

Velik left the frontier behind after finally destroying the source of the endless monsters that plagued it. But life in the Monster Hunters Guild isn’t the fresh start he imagined. People and politics bring a different set of challenges—and Velik has never been good at playing by the rules.

Even worse, the guild has a secret, one it’s willing to kill to protect. As Velik comes closer to uncovering the truth, what looks like coincidence might be calculated moves to erase him. And as the danger grows, old enemies stir in the shadows, hungry for revenge.

But Velik isn’t alone this time. With new allies on his side and new skills in his status, he’s ready to prove that it doesn’t matter whether his enemies bleed black or red.

If they stand in his way, he’ll cut them down all the same.

I'll admit you were starting to lose me halfway through this book but when you added the wolf thing I am now hooked and really want to see the next book I'm always tired of books where the monster gets a human form and then pretty much never changes back into a monster again so seeing the reverse is actually really cool

looking forward to the next book

Starting right off the bat, we’re put back into the shoes of our main character, a young man who’s normally isolationist in nature, but has to learn how to associate with the rest of humanity as part of his character growth. I really like this theme, and it’s one we saw in the first book as our main character slowly learns teamwork with a gold rank hunter.
I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews for this title, seeing as it has thousands of reviews across Amazon and goodreads, overwhelmingly in the positive. If you liked book one, I highly recommend checking out book 2! You won’t be disappointed, odds are.
I would point out that the narrator isn’t really super amazing, but he does an adequate job, and the shining quality of the writing more than makes up for it.

A great continuation with a character I’ve come to love!

Loved the plots and the magic systems, but my favorite was how well done character interactions are. Characters are realistic in that they are self serving, and interesting. Liked a lot how Jensens character evolved

Well written. MC and side characters are well done

I quite loved the first book and was a new favorite. This one? Felt like a waste of time.
All the MC did was whine how he didnt need the guild and how he was soooo done with it. Then constantly putting up with it instead of leaving. Then letting people who try to murder him live and never following through with plans. Made most the book feel like a time waste because the first 5 hours lead to nothing.

Once the actual story starts the MC goes and gets the stupidest skill possible. A total downgrade. I get it was set up with book one and his personality but it is still so lame. Instead of finding a way to store extra biomass and get regeneration he gets a skill that one takes away his ability to wear equipment or wield a weapon. In fact his new weapon is right next to a vital point kill shot, risking his life every time he attacks. The fact he already killed some by exactly that who had that skill before makes it completely stupid.

I dont know it the author just thought it was cool for the story but from and actual fighting perspective and survival. No the new skill is a downgrade. No spear range now, nope all fighting is up close and exposing a weak point with each attack. How can he handle humans with spears or even swords now? Hope that dont do what he did in book one? so so so a stupid.

Lots of whining
