I loved this audiobook - I can’t recommend it too highly!

Review of “The Wylds Online - Runescribe books 1-3” by H G Chambers

This story begins when Ben, an unsuccessful call center salesman of printer protection plans, is invited by his best friend Will to participate with him in the limited entry Beta Test of a new, cutting edge, truly immersive online role playing game (RPG), The Wylds Online. Will, who is successful and whose life generally seems to be on track, is elated by this opportunity. Ben, however, who rarely finds that things go his way, is much more dubious, especially having heard a troubling story about the fate of an earlier player. Despite his concerns, Ben is convinced by Will to participate in the Beta.

While Will’s inception into the RPG proceeds normally - he chooses his Class of Cleric - hapless Ben is denied the opportunity to choose a Class, a critical starting element of the RPG. Ben finds himself classless, unsure of how he will proceed in the game with such an atypical status. He is granted something else unexpected (which I will not give away) which, while not compensating for his lack of a Class, encourages him to forge ahead and make the best of his situation.

I will not relate any more details of the story because I do not want to deprive the listeners of the pleasure of experiencing the tale for themselves. However, I do want to share some of the aspects that made this audiobook such a fantastic experience. First of all, the characters (not just Ben and Will but all of the characters) are well developed, highly engaging, and relatable. The storyline is exceptionally creative and immersive and it gripped my attention from start to finish. There are unexpected twists and turns as the story develops and, as I listened, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Overall it was a superb listening experience and I will look forward to the next audiobook by the author!

The audiobook is narrated by the author himself and he performs admirably. I always appreciate author narrated audiobooks because they know just how to lend emphasis at critical junctures.

I want to point out that you do not have to be a gamer to love this listen. I do not play RPGs but still truly appreciated this audiobook (if audiobooks are not your thing, I’m sure this title would be equally awesome as a book).

I am always excited when I find a new favorite author and, I am extremely happy to say, that I have found one here! Get this audiobook/book now - you don’t want to miss this experience!

Good start

The story was fun. It lacks some of the high stakes because the game is VR and not real. It does a good job creating some tension with player interaction though. The characters are entertaining. The game evolves which creates a fresh feel book to book. The author did a good job with his narration. It felt like he committed to the performance.

Great Listen

Good story great boo/series to listen to while your doing things around the house or on a long drive.

Very enjoyable!

I read these books first, and thought it might be fun to listen to the audio book. I don’t normally care a lot for audio books, but this was great! I admit part of the draw was hearing the author himself read it. He has a good voice for this-or perhaps I should say voices! Chambers did a very good job with all the different character voices. It was a lot of fun, bringing the story even more alive. The storyline is good, with good characters, and exciting action scenes. I look forward to the next book coming out!

My favorite new series!

I love so much about this new series I'm not quite sure where to begin. The story is amazing and goes from good, to holy cow I can't put this down pretty quick. I feel like this brought out some of those moments from playing the most memorable video games of my life. Nostalgia everywhere. I felt that rush of gaining a tiny bit of extra benefit from a skill that would start to build and the feeling both more powerful but also stretched in cool new ways.

Beyond that, the author does a great job at bring some amazing characters to life, both with their writing and his performance while reading. I love how different each character feels as he reads from their point of view.

I cannot wait to see how the series continues. it brings back that feeling of extreme excitement when I was waiting for the next Harry Potter book and such experiences don't come along that often, and when I find another series in the future that really excites me I'm sure I'll remember being this excited about these books.

Thank you Mr. Chamber's! I'm really looking forward to what's to come!

Good book hope to hear book 4

This was a good book really like how it unfolds. The style of story was intriguing good listen.

Pretty good when bundled.

The first book goes kinda fast but the series is pretty good when bundled. I dont think i would have gone for the second book after book one if they where separate. Pretty good series.

Definitely #1 in LitRPG

Hilarious and well written adventure. Awesome voice acting. Characters are so well written you will miss them when it's over. Can't wait for book 4.

One of the Best LitRPG audiobooks

I had no idea what to expect when I first started listening to Mr. Chambers book but I got instantly hooked. He does his own narration, which is a delight. He really made this book come alive with each character and all the different voices and accents. Will's voice is this quirky southern accent that reminds me of my relatives, Ben and Will's banter is just a hoot. I was so engrossed in the story that I was transported to The Wylds world instantly. This is a fast pace quick-witted and laugh out load trilogy. Will and Ben become beta testers to a new online game but they must enter pods and have a fluid injected into them that allows them to experience the game virtually. Do yourself a favor and get the audio trilogy of "The Wylds Online" by the way I love the Wylds so much I also purchase the books.

Great series for a casual break

This series was great listen too for if you were looking for a book to sit and relax with. It wasn’t too hard to get started with, it picked up speed and kept your attention, the world building and character development was spot on and made each character their own and not a side kick for the MC. The drama was a little lacking and at some points of the book you can see where it was going but other than that it was a nice ride. Hopefully this is not the end to this series and we find out more, so looking forward to the next book if there is going to be one!
