I have read these books several times and love the story and characters. I have been waiting for this series to get an audiobook ever since they started doing them for japanese light novels. The wait was worth it! the performance given by the narrator is excellent! the story is much deeper than many people at first think, and it's nice to get different perspectives than we do in the anime or manga. For fans of either of those versions of the story, I highly recommend you check out this audiobook book!

I love this series. A lot of people do. There are parts of the story in later volumes where it feels like the author is getting bored with it. Still, overall, it's pretty good.

That said, I think one of the most disappointing things that the author chose was to rob Rimuru of genitals and make him effeminate. I know that may sound bad, but hear me out.

#1, He has the ability to morph into whatever tentacles when he's a slime so why would he not be able to manipulate his body when he's in human form? He can literally rip pieces off of himself and reattach them elsewhere, so why would the manhood not being there be a problem? He could just make one when he needed it.

#2, All the romantic minor arcs with the ogre women and the time girl are just teases that will never ever bear fruit due to the author choosing to make his mc just another d-less protagonist? Cur out the romance of you are just going to have him reject them all.

#3, The fact that he becomes a woman for the most part just feels... Unlikely. I put myself in his shoes and the moment I see the options I would have chosen the adult male version like himself. That's how he acts when he's oggling women and getting flustered by them. It seems unlikely that a grown man with an active sex drive would opt to look like a preteen girl unless that's what he's into, and that's... not complimentary.

#4, In later volumes, Rimuru and friends are busy fighting for their territory and developing it, but there's a distinct lack of a love life. it seems to me that this element could have added a rich background narrative that went almost entirely unused except to tease and then dismiss the readers' interests. I think the romantic endeavors could have been a solid boon to the later volumes.

Very good series, with a few observations

I love this story so much and Brittney Karbowski does an incredible performance voicing the many amazing characters this light novel has.

Slime-tastic Adventure

It was great to listen to the beginning of this story again and get details that I either missed or were excluded from the anime. I especially liked Gobta's adventure that was tacked on the end as a bonus. Anyway, enjoy the relatively fast pacing of these early books because if they anything like the anime, eventually half the books will be the characters in meetings to discuss what to do next instead of just showing us doing them - probably the only bad point to this series. My only complaint about this book in particular was the narrator, who's voice is so grating it practically stripped the paint from my living room walls. I get that she was the narrator voice for the English dub, or whatever, but it's still a good awful voice.

Great To Listen to the Beginning Again
