A good listen but...

overall, I am a fan of this series. I'm reading the manga, light novels, and I love the anime. overall the performance is decent but there are moments where I think the narrator could do with more energy and consistency with the voices. some voices start off as an attempt for something new, but then shift back to his default voice. Also his Sui is a little too high pitched and Sui ends up talking A LOT later on and it can hinder people's enjoyment. Im not expecting pro voiceover, that's for the casts of the anime, which I suggest watching both dubbed and subbed, but a little more consistency and variety would elevate the experience. overall a good first outing and I can't wait to see how the narrator develops his style for the characters.

A LOT of repeating... and complaining... about the same things...

I'll start by saying the narrator is probably a great voice actor. I just found his narration skills inconsistent. Also the belching isn't particularly fun to hear, so if you're sensitive to hearing people belch, I'd recommend skipping or just being prepared when going in.
The most glaring issue with this light novel is the continuous repeating dialogue/monologues about the same things. There are shifts in pov that don't really add all that much and literally recap the story from a chapter or 2 before but are retold from someone else's PoV.
Then the MC constantly in fear of being hurt when he knows how strong Fel is but he still worries that he's in danger... I can understand some fear but he is complaining way too much throughout the story so it just comes off as whiny.
It almost feels like the author had to hit a word/character limit so he added a bunch of annoying and unimportant filler but ended up just making the MC unlikeable.

Good story, sometimes very flat performance.

The acting performance sometimes feels like a person reading a wiki article. Sometimes it has weird inflections or emphasis on words, or sentences sound like they just end awkwardly.

The thing I have the hardest time getting past is that he breathes very noticeably into the mic between each of his lines. It’s very pronounced and like nails on a chalkboard.

I’m a big fan of the series but it really feels like the VA feels all over with this performance.

Edit: try listening to it at 1.5x speed, it masks the breathing significantly and actually helps things sound more lively.

Love the story!

I love the story overall but the narrator in my opinion was a little lifeless. Each word was said in a more monotone voice and was a bit dull. I had wished the MC would have a little more life to his speach. The book overall is amazing tho and I would reread/ relisten to it.

What stood out the most was the fact that the person that was reading the book has a lackluster range of character voices.

This is one of my all-time favorite books and it saddens me to have to listen to it being destroyed by the reader of this book. You can't even sync the listening of this audio to my Kindle. I don't know why he as the reader seemed to think he needed to change or just omit some of the words. It was already written very well and he could have just said the same words but he didn't. I bought the second audiobook but I'm not going to listen because I know it's just going to make me even more upset. I'm also not saying that the voices had to sound exactly like the voice in the dubbed anime. They did not do this book Justice I feel bad for the author.
