When a sentient AI system finds religion, its creator calls on a theologian-turned-atheist to cure it of its faith.

In a near future ordered by a sentient AI system called YAR, once-renowned Christian theologian Dr. Michael Berg has lost his faith through unspeakable loss. For the last few years, he has embarked on a crusade to spread his newfound atheism far and wide - until he receives an unexpected phone call. YAR’s creator, Ramy Ray, asks Berg to meet with YAR to talk the intelligent machine out of its obsession with religion.

A debate ensues between a machine that has embraced the truth of the Christian religion and a former believer, who has abandoned that same faith. In the process, Berg uncovers the secret that prompted YAR to ponder the questions all intelligent beings must ultimately face.

Easy listening. Performance was great. I learned a lot while being entertained at the same time. Would be a good gift.

One of the most interesting apologetic books I’ve ever encountered.

Loved listening to this book in Audible. I had bought it in kindle but due to time limits was grateful it was offered in Audible. Enjoyed the voice overs of Rami and Yar. Mike though, could have sounded less smug maybe. 🤔 Michael Svigel is a brilliant professor at DTS and a professor I’ve had the privilege of taking a class from. His love for Sci-fi and theology shines through. The poignancy of the story softened the apologetics in the book. In essence we all want to be forgiven and have a relationship with our creator and to be able to have both due our humanity and our belief in Him is invaluable and a priceless gift. Hope to see Dr Svigel writing more Sci-Fi novellas in the future. Continuing books can certainly go in many directions. Rami’s handling of Yar’s faith, Mike’s path to a reconciliation with God, etc.

Brillant

A lively and nuanced debate between an atheist and a believer. I was pleased that both arguments were steel manned. Good food for thought.

A lively theological debate

Did not finish. I couldn’t deal with the homophobia. This book was a hard listen past the first 30 mins, which was initially quite a cool premise and good acting.
