In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has...Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick....

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

It’s a great story and I’ll be continuing but wow is it immersion breaking every time the narrator says a skill or class title

Probably the worst audio I’ve heard

The reviews were right

the story of this book was great, no complaints there. the narrator is good with each character having distinct voices and proper emotions displayed. The only issue I have with this book is the God awful conversation ruining interruption whenever [HERO] is said, even not in reference to any system nonsense. This happens for every system title, skill, and class. If this is corrected by book 2, then it will be an immediate buy, but I can't listen through another train wreck of interruptions again.

Horrible narration decisions

so hey author, narrator, you are doing the same thing that Path of Ascension did, that whole "unique" system voice being used in the middle someone talking is maddeningly weird. PoA got tons of feedback about and did some re-recording and it's sooooooo much better.

It's literally as if I was talking to you in person and I randomly used Stephan Hawkins voice machine on 1 word in the sentence. it doesn't make sense and is very jarring.

needs to change the system reserve word voicing

This is a great start to a good book. I just wish that they would take out some of the emphasis when it came to classes abilities or other things some parts they were really good. Some parts were just questionable, but other than that it’s a good book to start with. You’ll love both the MC characters, the consequences that they do and the consequences that they get into.

A heroic good time

I enjoy the story however every time they get a boost or something the author put side effects in which drives me nuts. I just feels like he's trying to Nerf overpowered characters but at the same time it feels unnecessary and slows the story down. That's my only complaint about the story. For example buffing your party causes issues. his powers all have side effects and it's just boring to me because the story isn't moving forward it's at a standstill. if everything he does has side effects he's a useless character in my opinion and I don't want to read about it hopefully they fix it. if not this book's going to get really long and really dumb. I usually don't mind Nerf characters but this is just too much.
