Publisher's summary

The Middle East War is finally over, and veteran Cole Everett is trying to build a new life in Los Angeles, California, and hopefully reconnect with his cousin, Sean Martin, a private investigator.
His hopes are stalled when he discovers that Sean’s live-in lover, Arturo, is a vampire.

It might be 2035, where vampires are now an accepted part of society, but Cole can’t imagine that anyone would willingly mate with the undead. That is, until he meets Arturo, and is introduced to the incredibly handsome Rafael Barrantes. Attracted to Rafael, Cole has to rethink everything he thought he knew about vampires.

While working as a security guard for a high-tech company, Cole becomes suspicious when all is not what it seems with so-called government contracts. Cole can’t decide whether to play it safe and call the cops, or ask for help from his newfound vampire friends.

His decision will change his life forever....

Finding your Eternal Soulmate!

Rafael and Cole both lost the love of their lives and I think this is a very important connection. Cole has PTSD from the war, and he would love to stop the nightmares, but he never wants to forget his fallen lover. Rafael was the perfect vampire to understand this as we know about his long-ago lost lover. This series definitely has the feel of an old-time vampire story even though it takes place in a future time. We get fangs, blood drinking and some hot sexy times. The narrator Duncan does a really great job with accents and sounding like a vampire. We see quite a bit of Sean and Arturo from the first book, and I will forever love Duncan's Arturo voice. I really like the last chapter of this story, but I will not give any spoilers.

From hating to becoming

We always fear what we don’t know and Cole has nothing but basic knowledge of vampires.
We are then lead through a series of events that involve meeting and interacting with his cousin’s mate, Arturo. Then Arturo’s boss. Sparks fly and Rafael and Cole ignite. Throw in some espionage and you have action and adventure too.

Love comes in all forms

The Vampire and the G.I – Rafael Barrantes and the Honorably Discharged Soldier, Cole Everett Audio Book review

We are introduced to Cole, a soldier who has returned from the Middle East war with PTSD, making the decision to move to L.A. where his cousin, Sean, resides. Cole finds himself unemployed and practically homeless, sharing an apartment with a friend. His desire to reconnect with a family member he has been separated from for over a decade leads him to Sean's workplace.

Sean warmly welcomes him, and as they reconnect, Cole is taken aback by the revelation that vampires coexist with humans, and his cousin is mated to one.

As a gay man, Cole grapples with the idea of discriminating against vampires, who are not hunting humans and draining them dry, to say the least. He must find a way to apologize to his cousin and secure a job. Sean and his mate, Arturo, invite Cole to a party at Rafael's home, and the sparks between Cole and Rafael are instant. With a nudge from Arturo, they connect.

As Cole and Rafael connect on every possible level, he stumbles upon something dangerous at his new place of employment, leading to chaos. The author masterfully provides the backstory of how Rafael became a vampire and why Cole suffers from PTSD. The level of sensuality is just right and vivid, creating a movie-like experience in the reader's mind.

I must mention the narrator, Duncan Prescott, who impressively handles multiple character accents while solo narrating. It's a true testament to his talent. JP Bowie was a new author to me, but I intend to devour this entire series and explore his other books as well. I wholeheartedly give this book a solid 5-star rating. Well done!"

Enthralling

This was a great follow-up to the first book. I found it very intense and suspenseful. Cole couldn't understand why his old friend Shaun chose to be with a vampire. By the end of the story, he knew why Shaun chose Arturo. I enjoyed seeing the old vampire finally find a mate. The close calls had me on tenterhooks. Another great romance or two!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator did an exceptional job bringing the characters and story to life. I highly recommend this.

Better!!!

This is a somewhat new to me author as well as narrator. I have listened to the first book in this series and while I found it an okay listen, I wasn't as engaged as I was in this book.

I found myself thoroughly into this story. It moved at a decent pace and I liked the characters. I think I will have a relisten of the first book because I don't think I gave it a fair chance.

I am definitely now invested into what is developing into a nice little series.

This book was given to me for free for my unbiased review and I am glad for it. I'm not sure I would have given it a chance otherwise.

The other two books in this series are not available on audio yet but I am definitely grabbing the Ebook versions of them since I really enjoyed this book.

Good listen and worth a credit.

More Vampires

Rafael and Cole suit each other, I enjoyed their story. The only thing I took a bit to get used to is the character voice for the Russian premier sounded more English than Russian.
