Your tenth birthday on another planet? Sounds cool, right? Young sunling Gustafer Yellowgold’s year in the Minnesota woods runs both hot and cold as his local-hero status is pushed to its limits when Leech Lake’s weather patterns take drastic turns. Dynamite Ice Balls? Spontaneous Blaze Pockets? In the third and final chapter of the “melancomic” musical adventure, enraptured fans back home on the sun watch Gustafer’s daily video-diary broadcasts until our young hero falls into the claws of someone who may put his entire journey - and life - in danger.
About the Creator and Performer
After a dozen or so years in the Dayton, Ohio indie-rock scene, mostly self-taught musical and visual artist Morgan Taylor moved to NYC in 1999 in pursuit of a life in the arts. While primarily focusing on songwriting and performing, Taylor honed his skills as a professional sound engineer. By 2004 he brought his love of drawing into the blend to self-produce the first Gustafer Yellowgold picture books, with cartoon images depicting the lyrics of some of his quirkier indie-folk pop songs. The books soon became animated, read-along music videos. The strong reaction from fans and press inspired Taylor to hit the stage with an early version of his multimedia concert in spring of 2005; within three years, he was full-time into the world of Gustafer. Over 2,000 live performances, eight CD/DVD albums, and two Grammy nominations later, Taylor is just hitting his creative stride with the Gustafer Yellowgold series.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Future Classic Series
I honestly didn't know what to expect when I downloaded Part One of this book a couple years ago. It seemed like it was maybe for young kids and I was initially put off by the amount of music throughout. Well, the form has grown on me and it's become an absolute classic in our household (and my kids are tweens and teens now!) We've rooted for the hero through this at times goofy and emotional journey and the songs themselves have become an ever-spinning soundtrack for all of us. Kudos to the creator (who apparently did ALL the voices and production including the MUSIC!) Wow. We're sad that this is the end of the so-called trilogy, but the way it wraps up (don't worry I won't spoil it here) was really satisfying and gives us hope for further Gustafer adventures. In the meantime we'll enjoy these three audiobooks AND the huge catalog of his other music albums and videos online. The whole Gustafer thing is a little left of center. Just how my family likes it!!

A great addition!!!
Happy to see the adventures of Guatafer continue. I think there were more songs this time? I will say the "danger" parts were a little bit frightening, so if you have a really sensitive kiddo- perhaps make sure they don't listen alone. But, for us, the whole family listened in the car and all gave it 5 stars!

Fantastic Family Fun
I've loved every installment of the Gustafer Yellowgold stories and this one does not disappoint. Such an inventive, funny, clever, and most of all KIND story with amazing musical soundtrack to boot. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Just not as good
My children and I loved the previous stories, but this one just isn't as strong. This story introduces a bad guy, where the previous stories were just a kid trying to figure things out. It makes this addition not feel the same. It's not necessarily bad, just disappointing.

So. So. Funny.
Hilarious. So witty, gem after gem of quotable content. The kids and the grownups are all very entertained! We love the other books in the series.
