Publisher's summary

Ten years after nuclear war devastates Britain, Lazarus and his adoptive siblings are flesh and blood to each other; to their victims, they are ruthless killers who should exist only in nightmares. Now their next target, a group of men seemingly made soft by a decade of hiding in underground bunkers, welcome the upcoming attack because they are far from weak. Armed and prepared, they are ready for Lazarus and his family.

After the ensuing violence, lost and alone, Lazarus is desperate to make it through the irradiated wasteland to his clan before their captors reach a new government forming in Dover. Armed only with his axe, Lazarus will stop at nothing to kill the men who would dare threaten his kin.

But, unknown to either side, a terrible secret waits far below Dover Castle, lost for decades in the silent labyrinth of wartime tunnels.

A secret infinitely more dangerous than any killer!

A postapocalyptic story with nice reflection

*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.*

This is a postapocalyptic dystopian story where a nuclear attack destroyed Britain and a new found family have to fight for their lives in an extremely dangerous world. Lazarus and his new family have to fight for food and consider everyone as enemies.

Even though there were certain reflexions about life and how the world works, I found myself uninterested on the characters and the story itself. It felt like a daily update of the situation; like The Walking Dead adapted to a new postapocalyptic situation in which everyone seemed to be bad somehow.

I also felt the need of better character development, given that there were many, so little explanation on the characters led to some confusion on the identification of their personalities, especially on the audiobook.

Regarding the narrator, Most of the book was told using exactly the same tone variation, which in general took the excitement from the story. The monotony on the reading made me feel as if the exact same thing was happening throughout every chapter and scene.

I would recommend you to read the e-book or physical book and see if the whole perception changes because the story could have potential.
