Publisher's summary

A fun, sexy, and emotionally riveting new stand-alone romance by New York Times best-selling author Melissa Foster. USA Today best seller The Gritty Truth is the perfect love story for those who enjoy fiercely loyal and insanely sexy alpha heroes, smart, sassy heroines, strong family bonds, bikers, babies, and more!

Recovering drug addict Quincy Gritt has fought his demons. He’s confessed to his crimes and conquered his addictions. He’s finally ready to go after sweet, sexy Roni, the gorgeous brunette who won a date with him in a charity auction five months ago and has been putting him off, and driving him wild, ever since.

Dancer Veronica “Roni” Wescott worked hard to escape the seedy area where she was raised and followed her dreams to Julliard, only to have them shattered in the blink of an eye. She fought hard and regained her footing, but then the rug was pulled out from under her again when the grandmother who raised her passed away, leaving Roni feeling adrift in a world she knows very little about outside of dance. And then there's Charlie Hunnam-lookalike Quincy Gritt - the man whose late-night texts pulled her through her grief and have been setting her heart aflutter for months

Quincy pulls out all the stops, determined to prove that their friendship is only the beginning of what’s destined to be so much more. Romantic nights lead to smoldering passion and a deep connection too strong to be denied. But when Quincy’s past comes back to haunt him, can he and Roni accept their new gritty truth, or will Quincy spiral back into the darkness and lose the future he fought so hard to have?

The Whiskeys are perfect beach listens with depth of story, strong family ties, and a wealth of emotions. Small-town love stories with happily ever afters guaranteed.

The Gritty Truth

These two definitely have some baggage that they are carrying from their pasts. I love seeing the strength they had on their own and how stronger it became when they began to confide and lean on each other. All the characters in this book are so full of depth you can’t help but fall in love with each and every one. An amazing book with fantastic narration.

Another Awesome Whiskey Story

A great addition to the other Whiskey Dark Knights, Peaceful Harbor books. The characters and writing moved you through the entire spectrum of emotions from near tears, happiness, and laughter. It is always fun to catch up with the previous books characters. Can’t wait for the next book for the Peaceful Harbor gang and futures books featuring the Whiskeys and Wickeds. The narrators did a terrific job bringing all the characters to life and engaging you in the story.

inspiring love story

Already a huge Jacob Morgan fan! Jennifer Mack is a new-to-me narrator and I really enjoyed her performance. The narration was very engaging even though I do prefer first-person storytelling for audio.

Quincy and Roni have an amazing love story. They lean into friends for support and deal with their broken pasts and hurts. Quincy was perhaps a bit too perfect, but he makes for an excellent book boyfriend.

I haven't read any of the other Whiskeys books. While this story does stand alone, as is the case with many book series I can see how having the backstory of other characters would lead to a fuller understanding of the relationships and story world. I'm now inspired to go back and read the others.

I've read several Melissa Foster books and I think that The Gritty Truth is my favorite. It's gritty dealing is addiction recovery and an emotional journey with Ronnie accepting her scars and limitations. I also love how Melissa Foster's series always have a built in support system with couples from previous and future books. I love Ronnie and Quincy! Both have gone through so much but are experiencing a lot of their firsts together. This is one of those stories that not only touches your heart, but also has some unexpected twists. It's funny and sweet and I love the characters both primary and secondary.

Favorite Quote:
Scars are reminders of the things we've gone through that brought us to this point and made us who we are. They may not be memories we want to revisit but they don't make us ugly.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession and Pink Flamingo Productions. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Contemporary Romance

The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster is a contemporary romance that I listened I listened to on audio narrated by Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan. This is the seventh book in The Whiskeys: Dark Knights At Peaceful Harbor series but can be read as a standalone.

This is the sixth book of Melissa’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. It was absolutely amazing. Melissa sure knows how to take you through an emotional roller coaster. You can’t help but fall in love with Quincy and Roni. I cannot wait to read more books from The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series.

Jennifer and Jacob did a great job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you love contemporary romances.

Great story and narration

This was one of the most emotional reads I have read in this series; what a roller coaster of a ride. I was captivated from the first to the last chapter. I love this series, the characters are so well developed and Melissa Foster’s writing so descriptive that I feel as though I am a part of the Whiskey family, their friends and Peaceful Harbour.

This is Quincy Gritt and Veronica (Roni) Wescott’s story and oh what a story it was. As I have come to expect from a Melissa Foster story, this was extremely well written and was an absolute pleasure to read.

Both Quincy and Roni have been through difficult journeys and at times The Gritty Truth was a confronting read. Particularly watching how hard Quincy has fought to overcome his demons and drugs, he has come such along way. I loved how Quincy helped Roni with her grief when her grandmother died leaving her feeling alone and lost.

As friendship develops into passion and love, neither realize that Quincy’s past is about to come thundering back to haunt him and in doing so put their happiness at risk. Will Quincy go back to his old ways or will the love that Roni has for him be enough to keep him in the light and away from the darkness of his past?

I was impressed with Quincy in putting it all on the table so that Roni knew what she was getting into. It took a strong, brave man to lay it all on the line, after all his past has shaped the man he has become. I loved even more that Roni accepted him and took a chance.

These two belong together and I was cheering for them to get the happiness that they both so desperately deserved. The narration by Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan, drew me in and held me captive. They were spot on in my opinion.

OMG SO GOOD!

Quincy had a terrible childhood that resulted in him being a drug addict from the age of 14. When he finally hit rock bottom, beaten and dump at his brother Tru's apartment, he decided it was time to get clean and turn his life around. Now an adult and two year's clean, Quincy is finally living his best life.

Growing up, Roni's only dream was to become a professional dancer. She spent her whole childhood practicing to make that dream come true. One day while walking home from the store, a random bullet hits and kills an innocent driver which in turn hits Roni ending her professional career. Not being able to dance professionally anymore, she teaches.

It's the Whiskey's turn to host the annual Bachelor Auction and Quincy is a participant. Little does Roni know, her friends have pulled their money together and won a date with Quincy for her. Texting for months and becoming friends, Roni finally agrees to go on a date with Quincy.

Quincy and Roni are perfect for each other. Each have a past they are trying to move on from but when Quincy's past resurfaces and derails his recovery and the truth of Roni's accident comes out, will Roni and Quincy finally put it all behind them to get the HEA they both deserve.

Quincy is so swoon worthy! Great narration by Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan.

Beautiful Love Story!

This story is part of The Whiskeys, a standalone Small Town Romance. Veronica (Roni) and Quincy’s friends to lovers and slow burn romance is sweet, emotional and beautiful. Quincy, a recovering drug addict, is a handsome, sexy alpha man, caring, and protective. Veronica (Roni), an injured dancer, is smart, and strong. They share a strong and sizzling chemistry. They are opposites attract, but perfect together. I love the strong family bonds, and the amazing friendship in this story. The Dark Knights are handsome. This is a beautiful love story, and a great addition to The Whiskeys. Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan did a wonderful job with the narration. They are perfect as Roni and Quincy. #AudiobookObsession

Beautiful Story

I loved this audiobook! The narration was perfection. Quincy and Ronnie had a slow burn romance that blossomed over text messages. Once they decided to go for it, sizzling chemistry ignited between them. They both have troubled pasts and had to deal with some serious issues. Will their love be enough to pull them through? This story flowed so well and all the side characters are also fantastic. I adored this story and didn’t want to stop listening to do anything else in my normal life. I loved this audiobook and highly recommend the listen.

My Thoughts on The Gritty Truth

What a powerful story Melissa Foster wrote with The Gritty Truth. Both Quincy and Roni have been through such trials and tribulations throughout their lives and it was heartbreaking. But the strength they showed to get to where they are now was endearing. I loved how they started off as friends and really got to know each other before becoming more. And I also loved their respect for each other when it came to honesty above all else, even if honesty might cause them to lose each other. I think one of my truly favorite things though was Quincy as a whole. I listened to Tru Blue a while back so I saw how Quincy was through his brother’s POV. And then his appearances in the following books gave me bits and pieces of Quincy’s journey as well. This book was two years after Tru Blue in their timeline and Quincy has come such a long way. He takes responsibility for his choices and he has really become a good man. Then again this book showed me that good man was always in there. He just needed time, support, the program and all the right reasons to let that man prevail.
The narration on this was really good. Jacob Morgan was spectacular as Quincy. He is so emotive in all his performances and I enjoyed how that fit with the highs and lows Quincy went through. Jennifer Mack also did a good job. I don’t hear her often but I certainly had no complaints.
