From the Gold Age

Writing from the days when authors were paid by the word, this melodrama mystery shows its age. A story that tends to wander, a hero with q secret skill that seldom shows up in the course of the story, and the various characters that show little depth, . The ""riddle" of the title is solved quickly half way thru, and more or less ignored after that. Fun, for all hat, but patience is necessary.
