Prudish and Misogynistic

What did you like best about Gabriel's Inferno? What did you like least?

I won't tell you that Gabriel's Inferno is a boring listen. I did finish the book. Setting my personal opinions aside, I would say that the plot and dialog are very predictable. Now to my personal opinions. As a woman with liberal views on sex and progressive views about the role of women in society, this book is cringe-y from start to finish. From the description, I assumed this book would be compelling and steamy with some literary allusion thrown in. Instead, it was prudish and paints an insulting, old-fashioned image of what the feminine ideal should be. I don't want to give the story away, so I'll stop there. Entertaining, but you will probably end up wanting to punch all of the characters in the face.

Character Development

What did you like best about Gabriel's Inferno? What did you like least?

I liked that it was set in Toronto, which isn't a common city for a plot based in an academic setting. I do think that the main female character should have been better developed. I found her to be so mousy, meek and inexperienced that it was not plausible that she was also a brilliant student who had been accepted by Harvard, and by a well-known professor as a thesis advisor. I struggled to resolve this contradiction as I listened to the book.

What about John Morgan’s performance did you like?

Excellent voice for narration. He brought out the strong character of the professor, yet also managed to capture the young and inexperienced personality of the female lead.

Not worth my time

Has Gabriel's Inferno turned you off from other books in this genre?

This book is way too long. And I found myself switch chapters when descriptions of the heroine's shyness came up. The author spelled out every emotion, do we really need this? I went through the whole book, but should have just close it. Not worth my time. Unfortunately, I already bought the sequel when I started this book, on the basis of the first few chapters which at the time seemed inviting.

Great Story!

This was a great story, different than many I've read but great! I was so excited to read the second after the first was done. I'd go for another if she's write it!!!
