It seems a perfect backdrop for what Violet Hayes longs to experience: a little mystery, a little romance.

To be honest, it is more than a little mystery. She schemed her way to Chicago to discover the mother she barely remembered. As for romance—well, with the help of her grandmother and three great aunts, that is coming along nicely as well—perhaps too well. Each of her relatives—including her saintly grandmother—seems to have a separate agenda for her.

In the course of a summer, Violet's world will open wide before her eyes. But in the wake of discovery, she must find a way to determine which path—and which man—will ultimately be the right lifetime choice for her.

ALLTHOUGH I ENJOYED THIS BOOK AS LIGHT READING, I FOUND IT WASN'T LYNN AUSTIN'S USUAL STYLE. IT LACKED THE THOUGHT PROVOKING STORY LINE WITH A DEEPER MEANING. HOWEVER, LYNN AUSTIN IS #1 IN MY AUTHOR PREFERENCE

NOT AUSTIN NOT UP TO PAR

What made the experience of listening to A Proper Pursuit the most enjoyable?

The narrator did a stunning job, and Austin's depictions of Violet - a precotious young woman despite her time at finishing school - are pitch-perfect. Her sense of humor shines through in this book.
Typically, Austin's books are more profound than this one, but Proper Pursuit does tackle issues of faith, service, women's rights, wealth, and finding one's place in the world (albeit with a much lighter touch).

Who was your favorite character and why?

Apart from Vioet, I think Aunt Birdie was adorable

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were two scenes near the end that made me cry (I refuse to say more)

Any additional comments?

This book is well worth the read. If you're looking for something more serious, this might not be for you, but I must say I loved it

Not typical Austin fare, bbut delightful nonethele

This book is well written and narrated into a truly delightful and funny book. I laughed out loud many times while enjoying the growth of the main character Violet Rose Hayes. Lynn Austin has written a well-researched historical with strong characters and vivid descriptions that place you right in each scene. I can easily picture the Chicago World Exposition in 1893 and almost experience riding the first Ferris Wheel. One of Austin's best. Light. Funny. Romantic. The narrator does voices and accents very well. Highly recommend this one and I would encourage a sequel.

Delightful!!!
