Amusing for a long time, then gets old

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. Shatner has a lot of personality and attitude and it was fun to hear his perspective on many of the different TV shows and movies he has been apart of. However, started to lose interest in the second half of the book. Too much Shatner on Shatner to sustain interest.

Entertaining but seems thrown together

I loved William Shatner’s more recent books such as Leonard, Up Till Now and Live Long and… Each was well-written and had a nice blend of wit and depth. Shatner Rules seems more like a series of solo podcasts. There are some amusing stories but I got the sense that Mr. Shatner was in a hurry and just rattling things off. I much prefer his more-polished later works. It’s not bad but certainly not memorable.

A Delight!

Charming, funny, and chock-full of truly good advice for living and loving life! Bill is, an inspiration - forever young and forever filled with vigor and joy! The audio book is an utterly separate work of entertainment and you will want itt: highly recommended!

My best,
Robin

The Shat-Man is The Real Deal

Would you consider the audio edition of Shatner Rules to be better than the print version?

No doubt about it. This audio book is all the better due to Shatner actually telling the stories of his life himself.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the reflections of his time on Star Trek. He was surprised to find out decades after making the episodes of Star Trek that most of the actors on the set had real problems with him. Seems he was the last to know about it!

What about William Shatner’s performance did you like?

Very engaging and entertaining. He goes from whispering to shouting to ringing a desk bell to convey his "rules".

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's one of those books that passes time so easily that your half way through it before you kmow it.

Any additional comments?

Shatner has had such incredible longevity in the entertainment business (six or seven decades?) that its almost unbelievable...and he's still at it! This audiobook is another example of the Shat-Mans unending ability to engage and entertain the masses to the benefit of us all.

All Hail the Shatner

Once again William Shatner delivers. William Shatner once again proves that he is not only aware of his persona but his persona is him. At once a collections of stories and opinion pieces show us a man who is rightfully referred to as an icon.

Self narration is a total plus.

Narrated as you would expect.

Would you try another book from William Shatner and Chris Regan and/or William Shatner?

Probably not.

Would you ever listen to anything by William Shatner and Chris Regan again?

Probably not.

Have you listened to any of William Shatner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes - good performance.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There are some classic one-liners but I must get a translation of the 10 minutes worth of rubbish in some random language. That joke could have ended 2 minutes in.

Any additional comments?

Passes the time, but doesn't amaze.

He's more full of himself than I thought

There were times when I liked this book, and times when I didn’t. I’m not even sure if I want to recommend it or not. This book is only further evidence of Shatner’s view that the world revolves around him, and at times during the book his admission to this “fact” is very tongue-in-cheek hilarious. And while there was some laughter during the book, his so called “World of Shatner” becomes annoying at times; how does one person think so highly of himself?

I fell asleep a number of times with this one.

What disappointed you about Shatner Rules?

The lack of adequate editing was very apparent. I actually fast forwarded to skip some parts because it droned on long after the point was made.

Would you ever listen to anything by William Shatner and Chris Regan again?

Yes....if it was better edited.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of William Shatner?

Shatner wasn't a bad narrator. In fact, he was quite good in narrating some parts of his book... However, he lost my appreciation of this audiobook because it needed to have content that was more tightly written. Since he was the writer, he should have requested and followed the advice of an experienced editor to shorten or remove some of the content.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There were some parts that were funny or otherwise interesting and enjoyable,

Any additional comments?

Overall, on balance, the overly long segments substantially reduced my enjoyment of this audiobook so much that I never finished it.
