Publisher's Summary

The story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III rise to fame, through his dragon-training exploits, told in Hiccup's own words by David Tennant.

Hiccup was a truly extraordinary Viking Hero, Warrior chieftain, awesome sword-fighter and amateur naturalist. He was known throughout Vikingdom as 'the Dragon Whisperer' on account of his power over these terrifying beasts. But it wasn't always like that....

fun adventure story for all ages

This is a great novel and a great beginning to this series. The book is fun without being shallow and Cowell paints a vivid picture of life with Vikings and dragons. David Tennant has varied voices for all the different characters and it's hard to believe they come from one person.

Film before book

Strangely, I enjoyed the film more than the first novel, which is what drew me to this book. I had difficulty, as an adult, to look forward to each chapter. As a reader of children stories, I just didn't dig it. I will not continue with the series. Tennant was awesome though.

So impressive, really made me feel like I'm there

☆When you read this book, you feel Hiccup's troubles, and I even felt myself making all the facial expressions.😂😮😑😲 I stayed up so late reading this! With the mix of comedy and interesting tidbits, this is truly a work of simple, creative, genius. 😄 The accent of the bloke reading has also made it more real. This has been a very inspiring book. Thank you.☆😁

How To Train Your Dragon

I found this book very humerus and engaged boys readers in particular (our school focus). The story fit in very well with our theme 'Vikings' at school and I would recommend as a text to be used in schools. There was a lot of English work that we covered based on this text, from similes, inverted commas, Adjectives, nouns, creative writing and instructions to name a few.
