Is this narration done by a computer? It is terrible

The audiobook is unbearable to listen to. The first two books of the series have different narrators and are enjoyable. This one makes me want to smack the guy. The pauses are in the wrong places and the voice emphasizes the wrong words. It is bad.

The reader was choppy

He didn't read sentences fluidly! He would pause at the wrong times. The reader can sometimes make our break a story.

Great Story, Horrible Reading

What did you love best about Anne of the Island?

I loved the story, I thought it was fun and a good continuation of Anne of Green Gables. This is Anne's college years and is a nice story about Anne growing up.

How could the performance have been better?

Was the narrator a robot? I have been listening to LM Montgomery's Anne series and the constant mispronouncing of Avonlea drove me crazy. This was the cheapest version of the story, and it shows: the narrator does not do justice to the story. I would recommend listening to a different version.

Don't bother with this version

This is the WORST READ Audible book ever. I'm going to ask for my money back (of course it was only 95 cents, but still).

Terrible narration

I love the story and for the price was thinking I could deal with the narration. But I can't. Very choppy. I attempted to adjust the speed up and down. Nothing works.

Narrator

Alan Munro has a beautiful voice but he sounds like an auto narrator with poor punctuation. Its a lovely story though, and you get used to him after a while.

Narration so awkward it spoils the story!

Not sure what language narrator was trying to speak- inflections were weird - does Avonlea really have 4 syllables? I want to know!

Great book! HORRID narration!!

The Anne of Green Gables books are wonderful and Anne of the Island is one of my favorites!! That being said, the narrator almost ruins these books! His strange speech patterns, awkward pauses and creepy voices he uses for different characters made me cringe through the entire book!!

Terrible Narrator Spoils The Enjoyment Of This Beloved Novel

I love the Anne series and so I purchased the audiobooks to listen to while I sew and do gardening work. I am VERY disappointed in this audio performance. The Narrator has a boring, monotonous voice that make the brain numb out (so as not to be able to listen to the story). He is also a terrible reader, hesitating in every fourth word, mispronunciations (especially consistently mispronouncing “Avonlea,” which I found sacrilegious). He lacks a range of voices (for different characters) which is so I,portent in audio performances. He only has two voices: the mind-numbing boring monotone, and an annoying, sarcastic variation that he uses for both very old AND very young characters (which again, screams of his incompetence as a narrator to use the same voice for such polarized characters)!

Third Book in Series

Would you try another book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery or narrated by Alan Munro?

I would never choose any book read by Alan Munro, he is AWFUL and this book would have to be heavily discounted or free to put up with his awful monologue and precarious inflection, dreadful pausing where no pause should be and boring intonation!! Alan Munro has ruined this nice little book!!

What didn’t you like about Alan Munro’s performance?

Dreadful

Mixed feelings

I love the story of Anne of the island but felt this version slightly spoilt by the narrator. Each sentence was read with inappropriate pauses and halts which did not add any effect. Also his take on the characters voices was very annoying and false, sounding like something out of a pantomime. It would have been better if he had just kept his tone through out.

Terrible narrator

All off the books about Anne Shirley are wonderful, but this narration is killing all the pleasure. It is absolutely impossible to follow the text as Alan Munro makes pauses in random places and reads everything with no emotions whatsoever.

Worst narrator ever

I wanted to listen to this as its the third part but really struggled with the narration as the reader was so stilted and poor. Valiantly made it to the end and enjoyed the story.

I cannot understand why someone so poor at reading narrated a book. I wanted to give no stars for performance.

Dull or Poorly Portrayed

The story seems dull to me although I suspect that was just a case of a poor voice actor choice. After all who chooses a man to read a book that contains mostly female characters. He just has no hope of doing it justice.

Anne of the Island

The story is absolutely lovely however the narrator has an extremely staccato voice that is unbearable to listen to comfortably. it's worth spending more money to buy this book narrated by someone with more talent.
