In one bloody night, three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next.

Publisher's summary
Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist's worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world...and then tragedy struck.
Two decades of cutthroat partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA operations director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America's shores. Stansfield directs his protégé, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague Stan Hurley to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command - men who do not exist.
What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.
Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy's doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves on to Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn't know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.
Includes the first chapter from Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills' latest thriller, Enemy of the State!

Story
A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

America is under attack. Thousands lie dead after simultaneous strikes across the country. The day will come to be known as Bloody Monday. Jason Trapp, codename ‘Hangman’, was a covert operative whose feats became the stuff of legend. He was the tip of the spear—the man his country unleashed when all hope was lost. Flynn is consistently great
With this first (of hopefully many) Mitch Rapp back story, Flynn continues to deliver. I have enjoyed several of his books in paper, but narrator George Guidall makes them come alive. Now if only we can get these read unabridged by Guidall:
• Memorial Day
• Separation of Power
• Term Limits
• The Third Option
• Transfer of Power

Exciting audio book with an abrupt end
The book is nicely written and kind of exciting when you like the someway typical 'secret US agent' scheme. The end of the book came really abruptly. That was a bit disappointing...

Intriguing story with excellent narration
First time listening to Vince Flynn book. Wanted to listen before watching the movie. I loved how the narrator performed different characters especially Hurley. He made the character. I used whisper sync too but loved hearing Hurley too much. Would not have been the same experience if I just read the book. Considering getting the next Mitch Rapp book

Very believable writing
This book is about a young new CIA assasin that is very much different from the status quo, and that reflects the style of writing as well. It's different than your usual, I'm the baddest man walking and I let everyone know it main character that you find in so many of these types of thrillers.
I didn't care to much for narrator george guidall in the scot harvath series but he was a great choice for this book.

Best Spy/Thriller I have read in a long time.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I read many Thor, Flinn, Clancy, Cussler style books, and this one was the best I have seen since first reading the old school Clancy novels a decade ago.
