My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic. And a coyote shape-shifter. And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack. Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground.

Cost vs Benefit
$17.00 for a 2 hours novella is a little excessive in my opinion. If it was not for the fact that this book is so essential to truly understand the Alpha/Omega series I would not have bothered. Luckily it is wonderfully written, the performance was average which left some of the feelings and energy a little flat. I would still recvomend the series as a whole.

The beginning of the Alpha and Omega
This short story take place just prior to Cry Wolf and I think is so important to the story line. I'm so thrilled that this is now collected and in place in my iPod playlist and narrated by (**big sigh**) Holter Graham. The story and narration are excellent. It doesn't matter that it's not long - you only wish it was longer - but wait it is - it just slides right into Cry Wolf after all. If you are a fan of Patty Briggs and love the off shoot of the Mercy Thompson series about Anna and Charles, this is a MUST buy.

Not happy
This novella cost something like $20 for 2 hrs and 25 mins but reviews mentioned that it was important for background information before Cry Wolf so with difficulty I used a credit for it... THERE IS NOTHING NEW IN THIS THAT WASN'T ALREADY TOLD IN CRY WOLF. So, why did I just have to pay a credit (or spend $20!!) on something contained in the first book???

✫✫ 4.5 Stars ✫✫
I love the story of how Charles and Anna met so when my book club picked Cry Wolf as our next discussion I knew I had to start at the beginning! Even though this book is very short, I think it is very important to the story. We learn so much about how the packs are ran and about this world in general just from this story. Anna and Charles are my favorite characters in the whole "Mercy World" and I think part of that is because of this novella. Learning about Anna's past and about even a little about Charles helps to build these characters so much that watching them grow in the series is great.
Holter Graham is perfect for this series! I love the slow soft almost uninterested tone he gives to Bran and Charles!

Finally the novella at audible
I read this wonderful story by Patricia Briggs in the On the Prowl anthology years ago. I've rarely had a short story get me so involved and invested in the characters as I was with this one. Even though I've never used my monthly credit on something as short as this, I pre-ordered it when I saw it was going to be available and read by Holter Graham. As always he does a wonderful job and I enjoyed the story just as much the second time around. This is a romantic story but still seems more of an Urban Fantasy than a Paranormal Romance to me. If your looking lots of sex this isn't for you. If you want an very interesting and charming story about the first meeting of a pair of werewolves with some background on the workings and rules of a pack or if you've listened to the other books in the series and want to know how it all began, you should enjoy it. But be prepared to want more of Anna and Charles when you've finished. I'm re-downloading the first novel in the series for a second listen as I write this review .

Great addition to the story
I read this story the first time back in 2009. I realized that "Alpha and Omega: A Novella from On the Prowl" was a new adventure for the story of "Alpha and Omega." Listening to the new novella tempted me to start this series all over again. Sooooo, I am now doing the happy dance because this series makes me happy.
The H and H are strong and good. The adventures are amazing, the action scenes are exciting and the entire story is compelling! PB pulls you into a wonderful world. I am not reviewing the actually book as much as just expressing how pleasing it is to start this series over again. Well I guess it is kind of a review if you realize that I spent money to purchase the books and I am now willing to purchase the audible versions of those same books.
So I am posting this to all of the books in the series, because I will be listening to them for this Christmas season! :)
Yes. This series is worth all of your credits LOL

HE DID NOT KNOW EVERY WEREWOLF IN CHICAGO
This is listed as a romance, yet? This was probably the most smartly written werewolf book I have ever read. Briggs understands wolves/dogs. Included in the story are the smells, sounds, and noticeable body movements of a canine. Anybody who owns a dog, knows that a dog's world consists of these three things even more keenly then eyesight. My dogs know my body language and pay more attention to it then any human. This is obvious in Briggs writing. I did not see this so much as a romance, although I believe it becomes more so in the series. I enjoyed it.

A 'MUST HAVE' ADDITION TO AN AWESOME SERIES
This is the prequal to Cry Wolf book 1 in P.B.'s Alpha & Omega series and, although I have already listened to the series so far, it's still a worthy listen because it finally gives us the background to Anna and Charles's story.
Yes, it's short but it packs a lot in - kidnapping, abuse, secrets, trust & respect, pack laws and punishments but we're left with a budding sweet romance between 2 unlikely people that needs lots of tender loving care which is fortunately then carried forward and seen throughout this brilliant series.
Worth a credit? Well, because I'm up-to-date with the series, it was a bit of an indulgence but if you're a fan of the series then it's a must have but I just bought it and saved my credit for a longer more expensive listen.

I adore this book, and series.
Where does Alpha and Omega rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have listened to this book around 30 times so I would say it is probably my favourite.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Charles, how as an extremely alpha werewolf he can still be gentle and careful with Anna, especially after what she has been through.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The restaurant scene.
Any additional comments?
My only wish is that Audible could get both the whole series of Charles and Anna, and the Mercy books. I prefer to read/listen to a series in order so I would rather not buy Mercy's 8th audiobook until the rest are available.

The Prequel to 'Cry Wolf'
Patricia Briggs is up there with Charlaine Harris, and maybe surpasses her, among my favourite urban fantasy writers. This novella acts as a direct prequel (and acts more like a hidden chapter one) to 'Cry Wolf' the first true novel in the series, and I'd certainly recommend listening to it before starting the main series - although since they're not on Audible you'll be stuck with the dead tree/kindle editions. The narration is passable, no more, but the story is good enough to make up for it, showing the meeting between Anna and Charles - and also some extra context to the slightly convoluted events of 'Moon Called' - the first Mercy Thompson book by the same author.

Saved me a reread
Where does Alpha and Omega rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It ranks near the top.
What did you like best about this story?
The visual imagery I got from the good narration.
What does Holter Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
A more emotional response to the story
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I bought this to compare it to the print book and was pleased that I did as it was so well done and now I can listen to it any time I want instead of reading the book until it falls apart.

Once you start reading Patricia Briggs alpha & omega series you'll want more
Well worth the credit even if it was a short story. I have now read the whole series on paperback and hope audible will soon get the rest of the story too.
Treads the well worn paranormal treads of a world with a secret society of ware wolves with style.
Main characters are likeable and Charles is a good alpha male with Anna a good foil as a rare omega wolf.
