Publisher's Summary

Adopted at 13, Dell Jordan was loved, mentored, and encouraged to pursue her passion for music. Now, at 20, after a year abroad with a traveling symphony, a scholarship to Julliard is within reach. But underneath Dell's smoothly polished surface lurk mysteries from the past. Why did her mother abandon her? Who was her father? Are there faces somewhere that look like hers - blood relatives she's never met?

Determined to find answers, Dell sets off on a secret journey into Oklahoma's Kiamichi Mountains, drawn by the only remaining link to her origins - a father's Native American name on her birth certificate. In the voices of her Choctaw ancestors, she'll discover the keys to a future unlike anything she could have imagined.

Wingate Wins Again

I am so fortunate to have found author Lisa Wingate. I did not start with the Tending Roses series when I first read Lisa's books, I started with Before We Were Yours, but I quickly latched onto the Tending Roses series.

Narration by Tanis Parenteau is perfect. She truly captured the emotion of Lisa's written words. Excellent performance.

IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE TENDING ROSES SERIES, DO NOT START WITH THIS BOOK.

Although each book of the Tending Roses books can actually stand alone, I am glad I started with the first book (Tending Roses), which features Grandma Rose who befriends a very young girl named Dell, whose childhood NO child should ever have to go through, but, sadly, some do. My dream is of a society where there is none of that. I would like to suggest that you start with the first book and go through each book in the series.

As indicated, this is book #5. Dell is now a 20-year-old woman trying to unravel the history of her past. I do not want to say any more, as I don't want to give away the plot line, but in typical Wingate fashion, there are twists and turns and an emotional roller coaster. So hold on tight.

Congratulations to Lisa, Tanis, and the entire production team for a job well done.

I highly endorse this book and all of the books in the Tending Roses series.

Simple story

I struggled to finish the book, I found it somewhat boring and the accents of the reader annoying. Perhaps for a young adult, it might be more fitting.

Unfinished

Need to finish Dell’s story! She has so many unanswered questions still! Hate when all the loose ends aren’t tied up at the end is a series.

Wow what a journey!

This was a story I couldn’t put down! I was entangled in Dels words and her life journey feeling the pull to hear how it all ended. The performance was amazing as was the Family story. Just so breathtaking! Thank you for sharing your talents to write and the woman who read it is stellar!

A Thousand Voices

This series of stories was so touching and enjoyable to lose myself in. All of the characters with their life trials and triumphs weaved together with local history shared a beautiful path to the need for the joy and fulfillment that family connections can bring. I hope there’s another story about how Dell is able to get a family of her own so I can enjoy reading about how she is able to get the family of her dreams which is a dream held by us all. An empty hole is filled in hearts knowing that the dream is possible.

Ending not fully developed

I love all of her books but I feel like there’s so much detail in the beginning that truthfully could be left out. Then the end is just rushed and a little disappointing. There are parts of this one I would have love to see played out that were just rushed and not finished
