Resumen del Editor

Instant New York Times best seller!

Inspired by the real-life heroine who saved thousands of Jewish children during WWII, The Warsaw Orphan is Kelly Rimmer’s most anticipated novel since her best-selling sensation, The Things We Cannot Say.

“Gripping... This one easily stands on its own.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Heart-stopping.” (Lisa Wingate, number-one New York Times best-seling author)

“A surefire hit.” (Kristin Harmel, number-one New York Times best-selling author)

In the spring of 1942, young Elzbieta Rabinek is aware of the swiftly growing discord just beyond the courtyard of her comfortable Warsaw home. She has no fondness for the Germans who patrol her streets and impose their curfews, but has never given much thought to what goes on behind the walls that contain her Jewish neighbors. She knows all too well about German brutality - and that it's the reason she must conceal her true identity. But in befriending Sara, a nurse who shares her apartment floor, Elzbieta makes a discovery that propels her into a dangerous world of deception and heroism.

Using Sara's credentials to smuggle children out of the ghetto brings Elzbieta face-to-face with the reality of the war behind its walls, and to the plight of the Gorka family, who must make the impossible decision to give up their newborn daughter or watch her starve. For Roman Gorka, this final injustice stirs him to rebellion with a zeal not even his newfound love for Elzbieta can suppress. But his recklessness brings unwanted attention to Sara's cause, unwittingly putting Elzbieta and her family in harm's way until one violent act threatens to destroy their chance at freedom forever.

From Nazi occupation to the threat of a communist regime, The Warsaw Orphan is the unforgettable story of Elzbieta and Roman's perilous attempt to reclaim the love and life they once knew.

Different WWII Storyline

I enjoyed the fact that this story involved several different families/individuals and their unique perspective on life during the war in the Warsaw region. There were several scenarios that arose and took interesting paths I wasn’t expecting. It certainly made me think about my own life and the many basics I take for granted as well as the thankfulness I should have for the opportunities to freely get together with my family & friends. It was a well told story that kept my interest from the very first chapter all the way thru to the last sentence.

War and Love

This is a great historical novel and focuses on 2 main characters who alternate the chapters and narration. I won't be a spoiler for the end, but I'll offer that I agree with how the author ended it. The reading was perfect. I felt myself to be in the middle of the fight, in the middle of Warsaw. Although the internment camps are spoken of, the executions are not the book's central focus. I recommend The Warsaw Orphan to anyone who would like a love story inside of a war story.

heart wrenching! so immersive! stayed up all night

my grandparents were in the Warsaw ghetto! this book is heart wrenching and so accurate! They too had a baby girl in 1941, but she could not survive without food. my father was born out of the rubble and signified the rebirth of the Jewish nation! The Nazi's lost! we survived!!!

Great Story

This was a great book but you must get past the male vocal reading it. I would have given this book 5 stars if not for the ending. I truly loved this book and the characters. But unfortunately the ending is just that. An ending. I really with the author would have taken the time to write an epilog. I was left feeling incomplete not knowing what happen to these people I had grown to love.

Powerful

Book is the incredible continuation of Rimmer’s “The Things We Cannot Say”. As you read or listen to the story, you begin to picture the people as they struggled in Warsaw during WW2. Rimmer is an amazing writer and I am hoping she will continue these characters in a future book.

Great story

This is a story about the devastating toll of war. The author does a wonderful job of making the characters come to life. The narration was so good, I felt the pain and sorry and joy of the characters through the male and female voices. I highly recommend.
