Publisher's summary

Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.

Miles, Lord Arvon, is not impressed. But he’s faced with a tumbledown home and lost family fortune, and desperate times call for desperate measures. Toby—shameless, practical, and definitely desperate—may be just the man he needs.

To steal back a priceless bracelet, that is. What else were you thinking?

My favorite romance of 2022

I listen to a lot of books. Although predictable, I loved this story. The frank sexuality mixed with the growing love bond was very real.

I'm a Cis woman. i could not have been more moved (or aroused).

Very cute m/m romance

Short and sweet. I enjoyed the storyline. It felt different to what I’m used to. Started as a thief and then he stole his heart. Great development and ending. Great narration as well.

The story was sweet and I always love hearing James Joseph/Joe Jameson narrate. His voice is so smooth and attention grabbing.

Wonderful tease

Reading this reminded me how much I enjoyed The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting. Really good to meet Toby and learn what happened to him. Looking forward to a sibling reunion!

Charming story, narration falls flat

KJ Charles never disappoints. This story is a short-but-sweet little treat, featuring her usual charming characters, vivid settings, and clever situations. My only complaint is that it was too short, but that’s not a real criticism, I just want more, as always. The Audible narration is where it struggled, for me. The inexplicable choice to use two narrators only confused the tone of the story and muddied the characterizations. Individually, they did their best, but neither quite captured the unique voices or the cleverness, or even the pathos of Charles’ brilliant characters. Summary: Worth it because it’s KJ Charles, but the narration falls flat.

struggles like many novellas

i am a huge fan of KJ Charles and her works. I love the universe this story is set and both Toby and Miles are deliteful. But like many novellas the story felt too short and I had figured out the mystery well before the protagonists which made me want to scream a tiny bit. would recomend.

K.J. Charles doesn't disappoint!

This was exactly what I expected. A bit of danger. A bit of scandal. A man with a title seducing or being seduced by a man barely getting by. One strapping with muscles (normally the titled gentlemen) and a twink. And I absolutely enjoyed it.

Adorable Historical Romance

Cute romance set in a historical timeframe. A short audiobook that is full of cute moments and two fun characters, an earl and a thief.
