Acerca de esta escucha
Robin Loxleigh and his sister Marianne are the hit of the Season, so attractive and delightful that nobody looks behind their pretty faces.
Until Robin sets his sights on Sir John Hartlebury's heiress niece. The notoriously graceless baronet isn't impressed by good looks, or fooled by false charm. He's sure Robin is a liar - a fortune hunter, a card sharp, and a heartless, greedy fraud - and he'll protect his niece, whatever it takes.
Then, just when Hart thinks he has Robin at his mercy, things take a sharp left turn. And as the grumpy baronet and the glib fortune hunter start to understand each other, they also find themselves starting to care - more than either of them thought possible.
But Robin's cheated and lied and let people down for money. Can a professional rogue earn an honest happy ever after?
Contains mature themes.

Lord Courtenay has been called many things and has never much cared. But after the publication of a salacious novel supposedly based on his exploits, he finds himself shunned from society. Unable to see his nephew, he is willing to do anything to improve his reputation, even if that means spending time with the most proper man in London. Julian Medlock has spent years becoming the epitome of correct behavior. As far as he cares, if Courtenay finds himself in hot water, it's his own fault for behaving so badly - and being so blasted irresistible.

Historia
Archaeologist Saul Lazenby has been all but unemployable since his disgrace during the War. Now he scrapes a living working for a rich eccentric who believes in magic. Saul knows it's a lot of nonsense except that he begins to find himself in increasingly strange and frightening situations. And at every turn he runs into the sardonic, mysterious Randolph Glyde, the last of an ancient line of arcanists, commanding deep secrets and extraordinary powers as he struggles to fulfill his family duties in a war-torn world. The only question for Randolph is whether Saul is victim or villain.

Oh, Robin and Marianne are GREAT!
No better version of Robin Hood has ever existed 🤣🤣🤣 And Hart is sooooooooo STUFFY! I'm glad he encountered Robin, became infatuated and forced to be knocked few pegs down. 🤷🏾♀️

Alice is the best!
KJ Charles does not disappoint. Robin and his sister, Marianne, are making a splash in London. Where were they before London? Unclear. What do they want from the good people of London? Very clear. Marriages and reliable income. Well....reliable income is what they want. Marriage is the easiest way to secure that. And if Marianne gets a coronet out of the deal, well, that's the gilded cherry on top!
Robin has set his sights on Alice, niece of Sir John Hartlebury. Hart takes umbrage with this choice. He doesn't trust Robin with his niece and he is out to prove Robin's ill will. Which proves easy to do considering Robin's frequenting the gaming hells around town, and his inability to pay debts. How they agree to settle their score is what proves most interesting!
Alice is definitely one of my favorite parts of this book. You would think that as a target of a fortune hunter, she would be the innocent victim in all of this. But she never way. She is a smart, independent young woman who just wants to go to Germany to study mathematics. If she has to marry Robin to gain access to her inheritance, she's willing to do that. Robin just gives her a better way to do that, without needing to tie herself to someone who may respect her, but doesn't love her.
Then there's Hart. He's so grumpy and it's so cute! He just wants to brew beer and protect his family. And maybe find a friend to blow off some steam with along the way. When he does blow off some steam, it is hot!

As a KJ Charles fan, this was not her best
The story was a little slow and it never really sparked for me. However, KJ Charles is a talented writer and her middling work is still miles ahead of much of the drivel of other authors.

Sweet and spicy
A sweet and spicy historical romance with very likable characters. I didn’t realize the connection with A Thief in the Night until Toby was mentioned, but I’m new to this author…though I must say I’m fast becoming a fan.

Charming
Having listened to the book several times now, I find it charming each time. It resolves so beautifully that it ends on a high note. The characters have more & more depth revealed as they get on, due to both the main relationship & the plot. Very well crafted.
Steam: Medium. A main plot point revolves around sex offered for money/debt and whether it can be turned into sex but also love and a relationship. M/M detail on page for several scenes.
Narration: Smooth. Easy Listening, if you will.
