Publisher's summary

Statins are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the world. Yet many report unacceptable side effects, and a US survey revealed that 75 per cent of respondents stopped taking them within a year.

So what is the evidence for their benefits? Dr Aseem Malhotra, author of the best-selling The 21-Day Immunity Plan and co-author of the best-selling The Pioppi Diet, examines the claims for statins and their role in lowering cholesterol and preventing heart disease. He introduces us to his targeted heart-health plan, which, with a diet plan, recipes and advice on reducing stress and increasing movement, can help us to live statin-free and take control of our own health.

A must read, even for those not on statins!

This is an amazing and thorough book that is succinct and to the point and therefore perfect to give to family and friends who need to have this type of information. I really think it is a must read even for those who do not yet have concerns over heart problems, because it outlines the type of life you need to lead for metabolic health.

Very informative

I learned a lot about how to understand my blood cholesterol test results. After reading this book and several others, I do not believe a statin is for me.

Great information. Well worth the time!

I really appreciate the author’s research and recommendations. In a world where everyone is in the grip of Big Pharma it is so nice to know there are physicians out there who are willing to speak educate beyond the typical protocol of treating cholesterol with statins only.

Break Free! Be Statin Free!

My hope is that everyone reads/listens to this book. Unlikely & sadly, you will not get this information from your doctor.

Open your mind to information and ideas not inline with the mainstream narrative.

Eye-opening info. Great for prompting real conversations with your doctor. Just need to find a doctor with an open mind.

Highly Recommend!

Excellent information in this book! As a pharmacist, I’m slowly learning that much of what we’ve been taught for years about heart disease, and statins in particular, is not correct. Please read, look into studies on statins and diet, then decide for yourself.

Statins have little value

Statins have little value. More important is diet, exercise, stress, reduction, and weight by far.

It works and is shocking that it’s not standard

I adopted a Low Carb diet after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. Statins and Metaformin for life the doctors said, I chose to research an alternative path.
From 102.5 kg to 85kg in a little over a year cholesterol sorted and type 2 reversed and no exercise ( need to improve here).
I recently had a CAC test and was given a heart age of less than 30years old. I’m 54 in August. No medication just diet, meat, cream, butter, all the stuff they tell you not to eat. Zero carbs, zero sugar - Keto is the way…

life Saving

This book is packed with goodness. A well written brief on the impact of big pharma and industrialised food production on our nations health. If we want to change the world for the better there is no place better to start than with ourself. This book will set the foundation for that world changing endeavour.

Explains hidden truths very well.

Very informative book. Talks about so much more than statins. I highly recommend listening to this audio book if you had a heart attack like myself at an early age due to possible stress with no blocked arteries.

As a Nutritional Therapist, I fully recommend this book by Dr Aseem Malhotra to any family members or friends that may be prescribed statins to fully understand the risk / benefit ratios of such medication.

Lots of research so took time to ‘cut to the chase’

Some useful practical information but not until much later in the book in the latter chapters.

Brilliant Book

Once again Dr Aseem Malholtra writes an easy to understand and informative book. This has helped my husband and I enormously whilst we wait for him to have an angiogram in hospital for an, as yet, undiagnosed reason for AF. Whilst waiting, of course as mentioned by Aseem, my husband has been put on the full range of normal drugs!!! No explanations, even when questioned! At least when we have a diagnosis we will be able to make more informed decisions as to the way forward. Oh, and when I mentioned Coronary Calcium Score, the Junior Doctor thought I was ‘in the profession’. 😃 Thank you!
