Publisher's summary

Argyll, Scotland. July 1832. After a trying few months in Edinburgh, Kiera and her husband and investigative partner, Sebastian Gage, are eager to escape to the Highlands with their three-month-old child. Kiera is overjoyed for her cousin Rye and her detractor-turned-friend Charlotte who are being wed in a private ceremony at the estate of Rye's great-uncle, the Marquess of Barbreck, in what seems to be the perfect wedding party.

But when Kiera is invited to peruse Barbreck's extensive art collection, she is disturbed to discover that one of his most priceless paintings seems to be a forgery. The marquess's furious reaction when she dares to mention it leaves her shaken and the entire house shocked. For it turns out that this is not the first time the word forgery has been uttered in connection with the Barbreck household.

Matters turn more ominous when a maid from a neighboring estate is found murdered where the forged painting hangs. Is her death connected to the forgeries, perhaps a grisly warning of what awaits those who dare to probe deeper? With unknown entities aligned against them, Kiera and Gage are forced to confront the fact that they may have underestimated their opponent.

may be time for a new narrator

Well, first off I liked the plot line, but even though I like the historical bent and information, at times now I feel we are being overwhelmed with it OR, Heather Wilds voice makes it seem that way and I feel Keira is being a might too chatty and my attention span wonders. I found myself rewinding a lot in this production. It didn't grip and hold me from start to finish as earlier books have. I figured out who was the poisoner early on and the ending was pretty predictable. I liked Gage a lot in this book seeing another side of him and loved the sub story of Brèe and Anderly. Overall it was a very good read (listen) but I think the narrator needs to step up her game as she is becoming boring to me. Keira, Lady Darby and her husband Sebastian Gage are attending a house party prior to the wedding of her cousin Rye and her good friend Cgarlotte. All is going well until a maid from the neighboring Campbell's household is found dead, poisoned, in the portrait gallery of her great uncle Lord Barbreck. Keira and Gage are confronted with a mysterious poison, art forgery and mysterious happenings connected to Keira's long dead mother.

As always twists and turns in the story.

I love how Anna makes you start thinking in one direction when the story is really headed in another. Alway looking for the next tiny clue that may or may not be import at the end.

Sing-song narration

I like the series but struggle staying engaged with the narration. I’ve listened to less worthy stories told by wonderful narrators who keep me engaged. I get narrated stories to keep me occupied while walking or gardening. Not the case here. Going to read the story.

A fantastic continuation

I love this series and this narrator. This is a great continuation of the series and while I suppose a person could start here or read as a stand alone, I think it’s better to take them in order.

Love the Lady Darby Series

One of my favorite women’s sleuth series set in an interesting historical background. I’ve read all the books and can’t wait for the next book in the series. I’m hooked!

Another delightful mystery/romance

I always enjoy spending time with Kiera and Gage (especially Gage). This visit was no exception, but I spotted the murderer early on, which kept this one from earning that fifth star. And, as usual, ALH leaves us with a teaser for the next book: Gage's father has been attacked on his way to Edinburgh, and the situation sounds dire. Will this be when Gage and his odious father finally resolve their many differences? Not likely, if you ask me, but we'll have the answer in six months.

Heather Wilds is not my favorite narrator, but I have become accustomed to her sing-song style of delivery.

An excellent series!

Lady Darby Series earns high marks from me! Interesting plots and characters, very cohesive story lines, incredibly well-researched details involving the history and geography of the locations in each book. Start at the beginning ~ though each book in the series reads well on its own, the characters take on much greater depth if you begin from the first. I'm already looking forward to the next release!
