Publisher's summary

Carol Denman divorced her husband over 20 years ago and has never looked back. But on the day before their daughter's 30th birthday, John barges back into Carol's life with a request that threatens the fragile stability she has built.

John Bowman is sick. Very sick. While he still can, he has some amends to make and some promises to fulfill. But to do that, he not only needs his ex-wife's agreement...he needs her.

With the past hovering between them like a ghost, Carol and John embark on a decades-overdue road trip. Together they plunge back into a life without water...but which may ultimately set them free.

Forgive and Live

So this read had me in my feels and crying. I see a lot of truth in this story. The ex-husband that helped Carol grow and finally, heal from the loss of their child and her current husband.
Carol was in a work, eat, sleep and repeat way of life, and did not realize she wasn’t living. Her ex-husband shows up with an in operable brain tumor and ask her to go on the trip that their daughter had planned to go on before she drown. In between the journey, and the decline of John, Carol takes a hard look at everything in her life, and finds closure.
Tobias’ family is everything in laws should be in life but unfortunately, most do not have great in laws. Mary, Tobias’s mom, is an amazing character.
John even though he was not an ideal husband when they were married, he was good at being the ex-husband, and finally stepping up to be the person he should have been for his Caroline/Carol from the start.
This is an excellent book. if you can handle reading a book that involves the loss of a child, I would suggest this book. Seriously, be prepared to cry.

Best diction!

Interesting story, but I have to give Tanya Eby kudos for her impeccable diction- in all voices.

Less than average

Storyline was redundant. Characters were predictable. Narrator sounded robotic. I’ll stick with more tried and true authors next time.

Wow!

You need a box of tissues! Worth it though, as the story deals with love, heartbreak, forgiveness and letting go. I will definitely listen to it again.

Disappointed

Needless to say I was disappointed in this book. I feel the story was really meant to pull on your heartstrings. I did not like the narration at all. This is my first audible book and I will definitely not choose to listen to another book by this narrator. Maybe if I read the book instead of listened to it I might have liked it. The verdict is still out if its the narration or the story that did not thrill me❗️

Siri, is that you?

The story was seriously lacking. It’s as if the author did the bare minimum in character development. It was also pretty predictable. I almost quit after 10 minutes in because the narrator’s voice was so robotic sounding. She also read extremely fast. There are two other books in this series. I’m tempted to give them a try to see if it was just me being in a bad mood or something, but I also don’t want to waste the credit. I was disappointed in this story and the performance. It leaves me wondering if the story would’ve been better with another narrator.
